I have a grand dodge caravan, the when the "check enging" sign came on and I brought it to the dealership they were in fact going to charge me for a diagnosis test (which they look at the computer) which in fact was pointless because when I did and it said that we needed to simply change breaks, in which we did and yet the sign was still there.

Another time when we brought it into another mechanic they were saying that we just needed to change the tires! It was a lot of misunderstanding and they just kept charging. Also, one mechanic said that if we pay him $100 he'll just restart or better yet turn off that one switch. From thereon I was pretty skeptic about that check engine sign.

I've decided to ask questions around with Pep boys and others and they've said that computer engines become so sensitive that even after closing the door(s) the check engine sign can appear. I've heard of another case where even the gas cap can be problematic.

Auto-Zone and other parts stores will give you the code number. Then contact me. write down the P0420 type code number and freeze frame data too. That is what the engine was doing when the engine light first came on. ANd tell me what year the Quest is and approx miles. Many things can cause a engine light. Get that code and get back to us.

Go to your nearest auto parts store and ask them for a device called CAR-MD. It's similar to that thing the dealerships use when something goes wrong with the car.
OR........
if you have a 2005 or newer quest, and if its a SL or SE, on the center console controls there is a button called MAINT
(for maintenance) with a picture of a car on it. push it and it will tell you what's wrong with the car.
