i had my wisdom teeth out 2 years ago and they were all impacted and infected. now one of my gums in the area where my wisdom tooth would be is really swollen. the whole side of my face hurts and at times feels swollen. i can hardly chew and it hurts to open or close my mouth too much. could this be something to do with my wisdom teeth or is it a whole different problem? im worried they may have missed a little piece of tooth during the extractions but would it wait this long to have a real problem like this?

It is possible that they missed part of the tooth when they extracted your wisdom teeth, but a more likely situation is that your molar is infected. Sounds like you have an infection of the actual tooth and you definately need to have that looked at right away, before it gets so bad it needs to be extracted. Good luck!

Definitely could be a piece of tooth that was left behind from your surgery. An x-ray would tell you right off. Could also be one of the remaining teeth are infected now. And it sounds like you have a nice infection going on. The inability to open and close your mouth is called Trismus. I would not wait to see someone. Either find an emergency dentist or go to your doctor or local hospital. You need antibiotics to start fighting this infection. And the dentist won't be able to do anything for you on Thursday if you can't open your mouth and are in that much pain. Get some antibiotics!

First of all, since your tooth is infected..that means antibiotics. Usually a dentist will give you antibiotics if the tooth is infected and later on bring you back to take care of it. Since your dentist can't see you right away, I would suggest going to your regular Dr. And telling them about this. Chances are they can give you an antibiotic to take care of the infection. It's also infection that causes the pain, according to my dentist during a root canal. Anyways, that will save you a step. What you can do is call up your Dr. and talk to a nurse there. I'm guessing they will say to come in, since you're certain it's infected.

well it seems to be a part of your tooth left during extraction or your last tooth might be infected but this can be evaluated only after taking x ray of that particular area ,
as you said its swelled and hurting so my advice would be take a pain killer like ibubrufen BD and antibiotic like amoxicillin 500mg TDS and rinsing mouth with lukewarm water and salt and as you said difficult to open mouth than try some exercises as with less opening even dentist wont be able to do anything so try having some sugar free chewing gums so that trismus i.e inability to open mouth is relieved .
