Traditionally that is a bridal party expense. However, if you are able to do so more brides are footing the bill just to alleviate that financial obligation from their attendants. I plan on paying that cost but that's a ways off from now.

Traditionally, the bridesmaids pay for their dresses.

However, I always thought this was a little hokey...please take time out of your life, take time off work, wear what I want you to wear, and pay $100-$200 for it too! So as a bride, I did two things...I looked for dresses (and shoes) that were not super expensive that I could order from the shop where I purchased my gown because I would get a 15% discount. I then ordered them all and paid the 50% deposit (and I am not a wealthy bride!). Between the dress and the shoes, it was $95 and I was able to give them 6 months notice on how much they would need to pay.

The bridesmaids are traditionally supposed to pay but if the dress is more than $250 I think the bride should help out. If one of the maids is coming from out of town and needs to pay for airfare I think it is nice for the bride to help as well since she is incurring an expense above what the others are spending. These days it seems that every bride handles it differently. Just be considerate of their financial situations.

It seems to depend where you come from, the USA brides will say the bridesmaids should pay for their own, in the UK the bride pays. I am not wealthy, I do not have a huge budget, but I paid for my bridesmaids dress, the reason being that I feel she is doing me favour and I don't see why she should be out of pocket, but cultures differ so do whatever they do locally where you live.

Generally, the bridesmaids pay for their dresses and shoes. UNLESS the bride picks an outrageously expensive bridesmaid's dress or has a bridesmaid going thru some tough finanical times, or is just incredibly generous - then the bride picks up some of the cost.

The 'maids. They're also expected to pay for shoes and applicable alterations.

Some brides can and sometimes do pay for all or part of the bridesmaids dresses (EXTREMELY generous!), however, it shouldn't be expected by the bridesmaids.

I recently had to turn down a request to be my friend's bridesmaid in August because I was asked to pay $150 for my bridesmaids dress. It's not that I didn't want to be her bridesmaid (I would LOVE to!) but I simply cannot afford to spend that much money on a dress that I will most likely never wear again. She replaced me.

The BRIDE/bride's family should pay for the dresses... unless they're priced fairly reasonably. Then the bridesmaid could take care of alterations if needed.

The bridesmaids are supposed to pay for thier own dresses. However, some brides do pay for them or will chip in for half, if they are expensive and nothing less will do in the eye of the bride.

Unless you're incredibly wealthy and generous- the bridesmaid's take on the responsibility for paying for their own dresses. In the wedding I was in the bride got us a great deal because she purchased them all at once and it was a about 100 dollars cheaper.

the bridesmaids are responsible for their own expenses unless the bride is rich and wants to/offers to pay. The bride and groom have enough expenses as it is than to worry about dresses, shoes and accessories for the bridesmaids.

Ushers are also responsible for their own attire as well.

Most times the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, but in some cases if they cannot afford, and the bride wants them in her bridal party, she will incur the expense.
