You are so right! I seen that program on the history channel also. I love that channel. You are absolutely right about the lies. I just said the same thing just today to my son and granddaughter! What sense does that make to teach your kids that? I am a Christian.

St Nicholas was a real person who lived in Asia Minor around 350 - 400 AD. His father died when he was 18, and at that time, having become Christian, decided to give it away in an unusual manner: B&E. He is called the wonderworker because he did some unexplainable things.
One of the things he did was bring in a ship load of grain to a famine-wracked city, and three times the amount of grain that any ship could possibly contain came from its hold.
His saint's day is Dec 6th, which any Dutch or Slav could tell you. That is when gifts were usually exchanged. Christmas was a high holiday, with no gift-giving. Some guy commercialized it in the 1900's for convenience of the market.

I'm a Christian and don't believe in teaching children to believe in a magical Santa. It was a traumatic experience for me as a child finding out that such a huge joke had been played on me. It had a part in causing me to be an atheist for the first 19 years of my life. I told my kids aout St. Nicholas and they saw Santa Clause is coming to town and all, but it was like any other cartoon to them. They had no "BELIEF" in Santa Clause. My hubby used to call him Satan Clause, because he hated the way the lies to children has gotten so out of hand.God bless!!

Woah, I'm no Christian, but just because one is told about santa when young doesn't mean all christians are untrustworthy. And no, they didn't invent Santa. That legend has been around for a loooong time. Though they may have played some part in our modern image of him.

What do you mean Santa's not real?
BTW Coca-Cola did not invent Santa and is not even responsible for his modern adaptation.

And many Christians are against Santa Claus so you can't lump all Christians together.
"Though Santa Claus has Christian origins, he has become a secular representation of Christmas. As such, a number of Christian churches dislike the secular focus on Santa Claus and the materialist focus that present-receiving gives to the holiday."- from wikipedia
Finally, I enjoyed Christmas growing up, Santa and all.

I don't think lying about Santa is the real issue here. He's just as harmless as the toothfairy and many Christians don't believe in Santa, they think he's evil. As for Christians lying, Yeah, just read the Bible, what a crock of s**t.

Because we first must worship the great God of commercialism, otherwise we have no jobs or economy.
Shows that Christians don't have much faith that God will provide and rain down manna from heaven.
I've had Christians tell me that they are a pragmatic (practical) people.
The translation of that is: go to work, make money, feed your family because the great "spirit in the sky" isn't going to do it for you. Kind of makes you wonder what we do need him for.
