You will find that most of the time it is because of foolish pride. Most of the time someone has offended someone. Then there are those times when God moves someone. Yes when the Lord gets his work completed with you in one area he may move you to another.
There is also a huge movement in our land today that teaches if your a good person you will go to heaven. IT teaches that there is more than one way to heaven. The Bible teaches that in the last days there will be a great falling away. Friend May I remind you that the road to salvation and eternal life is narrow few there be that find it. but the road to destruction is broad. Friend Christ is the only thing that can get you to heaven. Christ said I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes unto the father accept by me....
Trust Jesus today and be saved.

In my experience both, even when the people seemed nice at first, their true colors showed through. One of the biggest reasons why i left christianity was because the churches i went to talked the talk but when you needed them and when it was important or there was any kind of crisis they disappeared and/or lacked compassion, understanding & kindness.
When i was learning Islam the followers were much kinder teachers and did not get angry when i had questions. several other relgions were also kind and well informed; i was much more receptive to their beliefs.
Talking to others who are between relgions or searching also i think the followers attitude has the biggest impact on whether a person changes relgions or churches. If you walk into a church and the members are mean, bad attitudes, and act like they are superior to you- you can bet that visitor is going to get out of there fast. Why be mistreated when you can worship from your own home or discover a new faith that you feel is your true calling?
if there are disagreements in doctrine if both parties are kind to one another some kind of understanding can be met. If one person is offensive then all lines of communication are broken.
It's really difficult to switch and change relgions, i still have emotional ties to christianity but i am working on that. It's not an easy process is basically what i am saying in my experience.

I have met both. I would say that most people do leave the church because they were offended. Sometimes they are looking for an extremely emotional church. I call it the "artificially emotional stimulated environments". Some will go from church to church until they find these artificial environments that make then feel special. That is one of the biggest reasons people leave churches, because they didn't feel special. Now I have only met 2-3 people that have real stories of Church's teaching bad stuff and so they just left.

Many find that their church, through its leaders, have lied to them.
When some churches teach that Jesus IS God, then the parishioner reads a scripture like;
(John 5:19) Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
This completely separates Jesus from his Father, Jehovah God.
why stick with a teacher who does not know his facts.?

Some people are trying to find something they find comfort in or something that will not hold them down too much, but the truth is that there is only One way; it's written in the Bible.
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'Jesus' (John 14:6)

Once there was this incredibly nice man who tried to 'save me' after meeting me in a department store.
We started talking about God, while looking at curtain rods!
Anyway, he was so sincere in his belief that I agreed to meet him and his wife at the Gospel church they attended that Friday.
I went and it was interesting and I enjoyed the singing.
I went the following week and came out of my shell a bit more, started clapping.
The following week I got out of my seat!
Within about 3 weeks I was going twice a week and having a blast dancing and singing and clapping. I even danced for 12hrs straight during a 'prayer-a-thon' lock-in!
Therein lay the problem, I finally had to admit to myself that I still didn't believe and it was wrong of me to keep using the place like a gym, so I left.
I still like hearing Gospel choirs though.

I believe it varies from person to person. I was able to see through the brainwashing of Mormonism and after a long journey of no religion, I accepted Islam as the one true faith. As for Christian religions, there is no leading "truth" that is taught, each faith interprets the bible to suit their own needs and desires. Therefore people change religion according to which one suits them best at the time.

I really firmly do not believe that there is such a thing as an EX Christian.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.1 John 2:19
Christians are sealed with The Holy Spirit and nothing can separate them from the love of God. There is no such thing as an x Christian. God bless!!
