Best Army in the world would require a mixture of training and technology and real experience. I'm sure that the gurkhas are well trained, and I know the Americans have the best technology. The best when all these are taken into consideration, however, are.
1) Israeli
2) British

I'll relate this story and you can draw what conclusion you think is appropriate.
During the Second World War, the Gurkhas had the reputation as being fearless, fierce and loyal fighters for the British Empire. A British commander decided to use a Gurkha unit in an operation which would require them to drop in behind enemy lines.
While preparing the plans, the Gurkhas discovered that the British wanted them to exit the plane at around 1,000 (?) feet. They felt 500 feet would be less risky. The British commander was incensed until he discovered that the Gurkhas believed they were to jump without parachutes.

Best Army Unit would be US or Russia as they have best technology.
If one looks at personal quality of soliders then its difficult to say but since Gurkha's are recruited across national lines (Indian Army, British Army, Singapore Army would recruit from Nepal) they are pretty tough and they have top military honors to show. Gurkha's have 12 VC and 3 param vir chakra's in Indian Army (highest by any unit).
A similar unit of soliders is Kumaon in India, which are people from himalayas, very similar to Gurkha's.

Currently the Israeli Army is considered the best.
Yes, the Royal Gurkha Rifles are considered to have the finest soldiers in the world, as is evidenced by the high regard they are held in for both their fighting skill, and their smartness of turnout on parade.

This is a highly contested question and there is no right answer. I would say in traditional warfare, record wise, probably the U.S. Armed Forces or the British Armed Forces. In non-traditional warfare, probably the Israeli Armed Forces. In intelligence warfare, probably the Israeli Armed Forces.
If you mean, ever in human history, then the military unit led by either Alexander the Great (Alexander III of Macedonia) or the Mongol army led by Chengis/Ghengis Khan. Both conquered land so massive that it has yet to be beaten. In Alexander's case, his conquests were permanently embedded in religious texts and many folklore. In Ghegis Khan's case, he is indisputed in having ruled over the largest land mass in history.

A UNIT is a very small part off an army.
The Gurkas have a very good reputation for being fine soldiers fearless in battle.
But many Army's around the world have their own fighting units with very good combat records.
History is full of historical accounts of such units.
