If a rape occurs, it is too late for the victim if the criminal is sent to hell...the victim still has suffered; why did "God" simply not have the sense and intelligence to not make such an asinine system of "checks & balances" in the first place?

The answer is that He did not create such a system, because God is indeed smarter than that. People are so deeply disheartened that they trust violence over peace, evil over good, for they believe evil is strength, good, weakness. But actually it isn't just that God is smarter, it is that none of the things we insist happened, have happened at all, for God is All That Is. No one real has ever been harmed.

God did not create the body which raped, or flew giant airplanes into populated buildings...God did not create such tragedy, therefore, it never happened. We must come to understand that what we call "Life" is a simple projection of mind, that bodies doing unto bodies is the same as what takes place in our dreams when we go to sleep...no harm has really happened.

We, that is, the truth of who and what we are, can never be but whole, perfect, and beloved of our Creator. We remain just as created, in peace with "Him". We never left this perfect state of life as life really is.

Long ago, in our terms of time, we awoke, just as we think we awake now, from a dream, and see that we were just dreaming; but we have awakened, to find we still are our Father's dearly beloved..."This is my Son, in whom I am well-pleased."

We are doing this ourselves...this is our dream.

Yeah really. I've asked the same question and I've gotten several answers. People have said in the Bible it doesn't speak of Hell but of a lake of fire. Or that if you don't go to heaven you just die and you have no soul. People interpret the Bible in so many different ways that it is impossible to tell what is true or false, because there are so many different versions of the stories depending on how the person thinks of it. A lot of people have said, though, that God does not send us to hell, we 'choose' to go there because we did not accept Jesus as our lord and savior. Personally I don't think I would choose to go to Hell. And I still don't understand it because God can do anything so why not send us to a seperate Heaven where there is no God or Jesus but where we are still happy rather than be in Hell and tormented for all eternity. I mean I'm sure we would behave better hehe if we had a little punishment for a while. But being punished forever doesn't really help us much does it. People can change right? That is the way God made us didn't he?

EDIT: Yeah ok I have been reading the other answers and pretty much everyone is saying that God doesn't want us to go there but that we 'choose' to. If God can do anything, why not just destroy our souls? That way we wouldn't be unhappy for all eternity. Someone was asking if we thought some people should go to Hell for all of eternity such as Hitler and rapists and murderers. But I mean can't you think of the life they must have had as a child? If you are raised properly with love and good influences you will turn out to be a good person with morals. Can't you imagine what their parents must have been like. They were probably abused by them and felt no love from anyone as a child and told they were worthless. That is not to say they shouldn't be punished. I mean I am all for them being put into prison so they don't harm anyone. But why would you want to put a person who has already been tormented their entire life into an eternity of torment after they die. It does not matter what someone does during their lifetime. Nobody deserves to be tormented forever, if you have any compassion at all I think you should be able to understand that.

The bible does no longer speak approximately Eternal punishment.. Only Eternal Life Catholics created Hell so ppl will also be terrified and convert Talk to a Jewish man or woman.. If they consider in Hell.. they are going to say No.. If Christianity has roots on Judaism wherein did the idea of hell got here from? Jesus was once a Jew.. God does not wish your Obedience.. He handiest needs Your Heart and Love When you're keen on anybody.. you do factor to not harm them.. When you're keen on God you could alternatively do matters that could make HIM comfortable.. Never put out of your mind that..

I hate that excuse. "God gives us a choice as to whether or not we go to hell" How could an omnipotent, ALL-LOVING being ALLOW anyone to go to ETERNAL suffering? If he was as good as claimed surely he would save at least those who had the least bit of goodness in them? Nothing deserves an enternity of punishment, to leave one to such a fate if you could save them is an evil in itself. Besides, how do we "choose" our path whenever it's already set? Suppose god is all-knowing and all-powerful, he would have already KNOWN what the outcome of someone's choices would be before he even created that person. The entire ideal is irrational, and furthermore, sick

EDIT: and I've read some on here who are gonig as far as to say that even if you don't believe in god you go to hell. How the hell is that wrong? If you reject god it doesn't mean you're "evil" so how does that warrant punishment? If anything, it sounds like you're mighty "god" has an ego problem.

That is a great question, as well as a hard question to come to grips with. Here are some other questions to consider: Would you agree that there are SOME people who should go to hell? What about rapists? What about child-killers? What about Adolf Hitler? If you agree that SOME people should go to hell, then what would you say the dividing line should be? How should God determine who deserves hell or who doesn't? Should He simply weigh the good in our life against the bad? If it's that simple, then what if someone did just one too many bad things that just tipped the scale ever so slightly and, therefore, that person went to hell. BUT, just above this guy is the guy who did just one more good thing than bad - so he gets to go to heaven? Is that fair?

The bottom line is that God says that according to His standards, we ALL fall short. No one loves the way that God loves. Each one of us has hate in our hearts. To say differently is just to deceive ourselves. And God, who is the author of love, cannot accept the hate in our hearts. To do that would be to betray His person. God judges the hate in our hearts as unacceptable and worthy of condemnation. BUT this love thing that God has is not okay with blanket condemnation either, so God sent Jesus to take on the punishment that each one of us deserves. When Christ died on the cross, He did this in payment of YOUR hate and MY hate.

God gave us this great sacrafice so that we can have a relationship with God based on His terms (which is fair, because God created us - right? And if he created us, then he can certainly say what it means to have a relationship with him.) Paul writes in Romans, "Even while we were still enemies of God, God loved us so much that he gave His only son to die for us so that we can be reconciled with Him." This is a picture of love in action.

If you have an opportunity, might I suggest that you read Romans and the gospel of John. These two books (especially Romans) answer a lot of questions about God that could help you as you search for these answers.

There a complete misunderstanding about Hell. And people are confuse like you. They say that if God is loving why would he punish people eternally?. To answer that question, let's ask first: "Does Hell really exist?"

The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl′ and its Greek equivalent hai′des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge′en·na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction. However, both in Christendom and in many non-Christian religions it is taught that hell is a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked, after death, are punished (and some believe that this is with torment).

Why is there confusion as to what the Bible says about hell?

“Much confusion and misunderstanding has been caused through the early translators of the Bible persistently rendering the Hebrew Sheol and the Greek Hades and Gehenna by the word hell. The simple transliteration of these words by the translators of the revised editions of the Bible has not sufficed to appreciably clear up this confusion and misconception.”—The Encyclopedia Americana (1942), Vol. XIV, p. 81.

Translators have allowed their personal beliefs to color their work instead of being consistent in their rendering of the original-language words. For example: (1) The King James Version rendered she’ohl′ as “hell,” “the grave,” and “the pit”; hai′des is therein rendered both “hell” and “grave”; ge′en·na is also translated “hell.” (2) Today’s English Version transliterates hai′des as “Hades” and also renders it as “hell” and “the world of the dead.” But besides rendering “hell” from hai′des it uses that same translation for ge′en·na. (3) The Jerusalem Bible transliterates hai′des six times, but in other passages it translates it as “hell” and as “the underworld.” It also translates ge′en·na as “hell,” as it does hai′des in two instances. Thus the exact meanings of the original-language words have been obscured.

What do you think?

Do you think a God of Love would do that?
You are listening to man, you need to listen to your creator.
The Bible is the Inspired word of God and you will find no lies in it. 2 Timothy 3:16.
If you want to live and attain everlasting life and help your loved ones you need to start learning God's plans for his earth and for you?
You start by reading the first requirement John 17:3.
Ask yourself why King David said : read Psalms37:9-11,29, and Jesus said at Mathew 5:5 that people would inherit the earth and live on it forever. You really need to ask a lot of questions and get the bibles answers.gemhandy@gmail.com

God is all loving and all mercifull and he is a just God as well. If someone purposely turns away from God with complete knowledge and consent then he separates himself from God. A person has the free will to chose between good and evil and we can go even further to say that every action either brings us closer to God or farther away. We deserve to give him the honor and the glory forever because he is our stronghold and we can do nothing without him. This is all because we love him.

This is from the Catechism of the Catholic Church - God Bless you on your journey!
1037 God predestines no one to go to hell; for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end. In the Eucharistic liturgy and in the daily prayers of her faithful, the Church implores the mercy of God, who does not want "any to perish, but all to come to repentance":

Father, accept this offering
from your whole family.
Grant us your peace in this life,
save us from final damnation,
and count us among those you have chosen.

my "theory" is that God doesn't send you anywhere. Throughout your life you're granted free will and through your choices and acts you choose ultimately to unite with God or abandon Him. After death the free will thing stops and you're left with the sum total of your choices.

Hell is the absence of God and throughout the ages various well-meaning people have tried to relate how "painful" that separation would be in human terms - and the only language that seemed to come close was the burning, painful, torment that appear in the literature and images that we connect with hell.
