Who had/has the best chin in boxing history?

I heard someone mention Jake LaMotta on another question. I've been re-watching a lot of Sal Sanchez, and that kid could take some crack without blinking. Of course, Tex Cobb stood there and had Holmes pound on him for 12 solid rounds without moving. Any others?

Jim Jeffries- Was almost impossible to hurt and rugged beyond belief with a granite chin. Was never knocked down during his prime.

Rocky Marciano-GREAT chin ( though knocked down twice ) His recovery time was extraordinary. Even the great Archie Moore ( who was a knockout artist ) could'nt put the Rock to sleep.

Jack Dempsey-( ole leather face and stone chin ) Only KO'D once by jim flynn ( but giving Dempsey his due, he had'nt eaten in several days at the time ) Even the huge Luis 'Angel' Firpo ( who supposedly a George Foreman of his day ) could'nt KO Dempsey.

Chivalo-In the ring was never knocked off his feet.

'Tex' Cobb- What can you say ? The guy did'nt have a human chin.

Harry Greb was knocked out 1 time in 299 fights. George Chuvalo was never knocked off his feet in over 90 fights against such fighters as Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman. Tex Cobb had a granite jaw. Marvin Hagler withstood the bombs of John Mugabi and Thomas Hearns and was knocked down once in his career (controversial) and had an iron jaw.

Heavyweights are the best testing grounds for chins. It`s a hard question and the easiest selections have already been answered. Chances are we may be talking about someone none of us has really thought of because the guy might not of been a contender. Cant a journeyman get a break? LOL

That's a tough question, but i'd probably go with Marvin Hagler. I don't even think i've ever seen this man hurt even once and he's fought some pretty good punchers. Rocky Marciano, James Toney, Sanchez, as you mentioned, David Tua, Bernard Hopkins, and Ray Leonard in his prime had a pretty good beard.

This next guy i'm going to list may surprise some people, but Oliver McCall has a solid chin as well. He's never been down to my knowledge and he's fought some hard punchers. I remember his second fight with Lennox Lewis when he had the breakdown, Lewis clocked him with a flush right hand while his hands were down and McCall ate it and just looked at him, and Lewis had one of the best right hands in boxing.

I agree with 88 1 chances are it was some journeyman fighter who few people have ever heard of. Those sort of fighters arnt the most skilled boxing wise but are as hard as nails, and are usually hired just to give an un and coming fighter a human punchbag to hone their own skills.

Muhammad Ali. He'd been hit by the sport's hardest punchers - Henry Cooper, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, to name a few - but he was never knocked out. Some of 'em floored him, like Joe Frazier, but he was always up quick.

Doug DeWitt, when he fought Hearns, his tactic seemed to be to lead with his chin, Hearns seemed to tire of hitting him. Definitely in the top ten at least.
