How do Illegal Immigrants damage our country?

I mean I have heard how they "destroy" schools, waste money, etc. But really explain how they do this, and balance it out with the benefits. I want to know what you think. I'm neutral.

There are different organizations that say have opposite findings....Example, reports from the Urban Institute emphasize that immigrant families are less likely than native families to receive various welfare benefits, including TANF, food stamps, and the Earned Income Tax Credit, and are less likely to have some form of health coverage.

On another side of the debate, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has produced reports that have focused on the costs of immigration, especially undocumented immigration, for federal and state governments. These reports focus on the deficit between the fiscal contributions of immigrants in the form of payroll taxes and the reliance of immigrants on public assistance programs, such as food assistance and Medicaid. It states that while over half of undocumented immigrants contribute to the federal budget in the form of payroll taxes (creating a benefit for Social Security and Medicare programs of $7 billion annually), the costs of undocumented immigrants to the federal government exceeded their contributions by approximately $10.4 billion...

This fact can't be disputed, it comes from the Social Security adminstration, in 2002 alone, the last year with figures released by the Social Security Administration, nine million W-2's with incorrect Social Security numbers landed in the "suspense" file, accounting for $56 billion in earnings, or about 1.5 percent of total reported wages.

Social Security officials do not know what fraction of the suspense file corresponds to the earnings of illegal immigrants. But they suspect that the portion is significant.

Many do pay taxes, to the tune of $56 billion a year, and in fact, they will never see a dime of this money....

Dar, what am I missing? Please explain the 56 billion a year they contribute to the suspense file? Where does that money go? (Probably in GW pocket? J/Kidding lol)

Economy has gotten worse in the past 30 years.

How many of us had parents who both absolutely had to work in order to just pay bills?

The illegals supposedly work jobs citizens wont do, yet there are so many citizens who can't find jobs and are looking all of the time.

They drive and wreck into people and destroy their lives because they are not insured and injure the other person and total their cars.

They have brought in diseases and every year, vaccinations increase because of the deseases they bring in.

TB has increased and 86% of TB cases are immigrants.

They work for less money because they usually are sending it back home to their family and they don't have to support their family here on this economy that they helped create. Working for less money makes it harder for citizens to get jobs paying decent wages.

The companies they work for are commiting IRS fraud by not reporting all employees and you cannot pay taxes unless you have a SS number. So either they are using fake ones or the illegal has commited ID theft. Either way, that is a crime. You go out and commit a crime such as this and you will get locked up.

What benefits?? I see none.
What consequenses?? I see plenty.

Let's see 1st of all they are called Illegal because they broke the law when they came into this Country without legal permission to do so (what part of Illegal do people not understand).

On top of that they are stealing jobs from Americans.

Oh i've heard the myth that Americans don't want these jobs anyways, well there was a place that employed Illegal Aliens and claimed Americans didn't want jobs that were available, the Feds raided this place and got rid of every Illegal Alien, this led to tons of job openings and you know who was in line to get those jobs?

In line for those jobs were American citizens and Legal Resident Aliens (that are able to speak English), thus disproving the myth that no Americans wanted these stolen jobs anyways.

Also Illegal Aliens never pay into Social Security but they are stealing from the Social Security that they never paid into.

On top of that Illegal Aliens are selling drugs, commiting murder, rape, armed robbery, arson and a host of other crimes in this Country.

Oh yeah the money they get from work and Social Security winds up in the other Country instead of being spent here.

I guess I'll take health care.
Hospitals in border states are closing and others are filing bankruptcy. They CANNOT deny care to an illegal alien and the illegals know this. The government will NOT reimburse the hospitals for the cost of that care.
The hospitals then have to raise fees for both uninsured and insured Americans.
In most cases, they can't locate the illegals to collect their fees.
Visit county health departments in border and near border states. At any given time, you will see far more latino faces than black or white. If they have an anchor baby, they draw WIC thru those health depts at taxpayer expense.
Worst of all, illegal aliens are NOT screened for illness as legal immigrants are. Rising TB, LEPROSY of all things, and many other diseases are being carried into the country by them unchecked.
There is no benefit to our health-care system to overload it with free care to illegal aliens.

After working at the Health Department for a period of time, what I can tell you is that in a 6 month period of time the Hispanic population not only had babies but came back pregnant again. We were not allowed to ask for ID nor green cards...we supplied their prenatal care up to a point in their pregnancy and then supplied them with vouchers for formula, milk, cereal, cheese, eggs, juice, and dried beans. Illegal aliens don't work to pay taxes in this country but get all the benefits that our taxes pay.

I also have a yard and Hispanic neighbors. Do they care that I have planted flowers that are supposed to come back every year? No, they trample through my yard and have destroyed my hard work. The leave beer bottles and trash in my yard as they do so. I clean up their mess and have to put up different things to save my plants.

I gues I take economics. The experts are actually split on this one. There is proof that illegal immigrants slows inflation, by providing cheap labor and they spend alot of their money increasing the size of our economy. On the other hand the excess labor is believed to do that at the expense of our wages. That the increase in supply of workers allow employers to leverage the workers to keep the wages down.
Illegal immigrants also help drive small business. Because they are from a different culture, they need specialized business to serve their needs. They would require foods that remind them of home, services to mail money home, and other things that would help them make our country more like home. On the other hand they do alot of damage to older American business. Small business fail, because they are unable to hire translators due to size and unable to understand their culture. Mexican AMerican business has to groups of clients. The Mexican clients pretty much are dependent on them. The other business only have the non-spanish speaking businesses. Because the Mexican American business has two sets of clients, they become larger and use their size to leverage a better price from sppliers. Because they can do that, they often bankrupt the other business by cutting their prices. This is most evident in the African American Business. The Caucasian businesses are better funded and can survive a little better.

You can't 'balance it out with benefits' to the taxpaying worker. Big business benefits because we pay for schools and services to subsidize the below market/poverty level wages they give their employees.

LA has a 'static' domestic population. Until recently, LA hadn't built a school in 30 years. In the last decade LA has entered a multibillion dollar building spree. Even so, schools are overcrowded and on year round schedules, and are taught by emergency credentialled teachers. Programs for our own children, language, pe, arts, and gifted programs are cut or eligibility is systematically narrowed to fund ESL and ESL intervention programs. The no child left behind act made this worse, because the focus is a) on the underperforming student and b) on underperforming subgroups. When illegal immigrants cross the border with children, they immediately fall into both categories. The bare minimum in education is supported for our children, and parents are expected to 'find money' to supplement it. Furthermore, the language barrier slows the class for the other students. For those legally here, that is one thing. However, government numbers tell us that 50% of Mexican nationals are not legally here. Without knowing who, specifically, is illegally here, you can look at the demographics of LAUSD and clearly estimate the magnitude of the impact.

And that is just schools.

This school district was one of the best in the country 30 years ago. It is not just the money. It is ruining education for our children.

angela, the $10 billion deficit number from CIS already takes into account the Social Security taxes, and that is even assuming they are never legalized so don't take it in benefits. Further that $10 bill doesn't touch education and the more expensive programs funded at the local and state level. According to testimony before a House hearing last year LA county alone pays $1 billion a year in benefits to illegal immigrants - and the state of California pays $10 billion. That, and the costs of the other states, is on top of the $10 billion federal deficit for their programs after taking into account the suspense fund.

Angela, it is already off-set in the numbers you quoted in the CIS study. You are double counting it.

However, if they are legalized they will take out much more in SS than they paid in, given their income brackets (and the fact that 1/2 haven't paid in at all, per studies.) So if you are looking ahead to legalization, that number shouldn't be counted at all.

Here in my city we hold 6 weeks of summer school for the"migrant workers" children. These are people who do not pay into the school district. Yet we pay to educate their children. Then the school officials say there is no money for some programs and cut them. The school buildings can not be replaced as we dont have money for it. So our children suffer a lesser education because of the money spent on them. Just one story of how they damage our country.

OK i will explain this very simply
there are 10,000 job oppenings in america ( hypothetically)
If a large amount of immigrants come to america where will these jobs go to? to the american from whom which needs to be paid minimum wage, health benifits or to the immigrant who does not need to be paid minimum wage, health benifits. Not only will they hire the immigrant but they will hire him without even paying him minimum wage. So we give them jobs they know that they can get the jobs because we are cheap like that thus making them want to come even more. See... if we didnt give them jobs they wouldnt come, it would be just that simple. Ok, so how do they waste money, like i said they take away jobs from americans who NEED the money. So if a american cannot rise financially how can they rise in the financial ladder as a pose to a immigrant wwhere lower than minimum wage is fine. So the money that immigrants do make is spent somewhere other than the U.S. So goods are not bought in large quantitys and there arent many taxes. See, a large amount of mexicans come to america to support there family that is in some other country. So the immigrant will not buy anything here....why would he? when he can just send all the money to there home country, and benifit from it when they do come back. A certain amount of money of wage is reduced due to taxes, a certain amount of money is added to goods to go towards taxes, so if imigrants are getting these jobs where they dont pay taxes, and they dont buy expensive goods in america then the income of taxes isnt that high. THAT is why a overwhelming population of immigrants is bad

Personally,I believe the immigrants MAIN damage factor is stealing OUR jobs to send money to THIER countries!
It would be one thing if they worked and spent money back into where they worked but most dont. Most come here,to work..to benefit themselves and thier countries.
That robs our ecomomy..our people of jobs...our children of food...might as well steal the food rightout of My kids mouths.
as for benefits? I really cant think of much. Sure,at first if they all left We would be at a loss at how to take up the slack but there are PLENTY of americans who need jobs so we would recover.
