It is a simple truth.
The Bible says...
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10
I've always heard, if you do God's job in lifting yourself up, then he will do your job in humbling you. How many times do you see or hear of people bragging only to be embarrassed. For example, the Titanic was spoken of as unsinkable by God and look what happened!
The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. Isaiah 2:11
When pride comes, then comes disgrace. Proverbs 11:2
Pride only breeds quarrels. Proverbs 13;10
Pride goes before destruction Proverbs 16:18
The pride of your heart deceives you Obadiah 1:3
Pride is not a good thing!

I am glad you got this correct. I hear this so many times misquoted as pride goes before a fall. Pride is a deadly sin. Lucifer had this. Pride leads to destruction, that is how dangerous it is. (destruction...leading to Hell). A haughty spirit is getting close (kind of like I am better that you). But a fall brings someone down, but you can get up from a fall, but destruction has no recovery.

A person full of pride will have a larger fall because he was so high up on himself that the distance to fall will be farther. Pride always ends up in a wrong place because you will hurt people and step on lives to be number one. Fame never stays consistant. Since we are human and not perfect, pride can take over reality and usually we find out the hard way that we arent all that we perceive we are. In humility we can accomplish a lot more. The blessings are shared and your wisdom and love for others will be cherished with honor.

Some pride is good. It makes us care enough to struggle to keep ourselves from sinking into the gutter.
However, too much pride leads to arrogance which can cause a person to delude himself into believing he can do no wrong. This can lead to making rash decisions that can lead to one's own downfall. Some powerful men in business for instance, or athletes and other celebrities with more money and time than brains.
A feeling of haughty superiority also tends to cause one to show disdain toward those one thinks unworthy.
Kind of like how religious people treat unbelievers.

It's the same concept of hubris in classical literature. People make mistakes when they are too proud to admit that they can't do something or don't know how or aren't strong enough or when they think that they can thwart the ultimate authority (God, etc). Not only do they realize at the last minute how miniscule and wrong they are (pride goeth...) but they have to deal with the consequences of their actions (before destruction). Greek heroes always overestimated their boundaries and ended up not only losing their proud mindset, but usually their lives because of hubris. Hubris means something along the lines of the fatal flaw or fatal pride.

It will also tell you that GOD hates a proud look.
We are to honor Christ in all things and when pride (self) gets in the way you can mark it down if your a child of the Living God, there is a fall comming quickly. We are to walk in humility, not pride (self worship)
Read more in proverbs you ll find alot of good lessons..

Because it is a truism, that is, a statement of general truth that applies to most circumstances but is not a universal truth or a promise from God.
Usually when a person is proud and haughty they make enemies and are short on friends. Then either their enemies destroy them or when some other misfortune happens they don't have the support network of caring friends to come to their aid.

Having a mind set I will never walk against the wind. Basking in the sun of position no. 1. Full belly & cup running over righteousness. Luke 16:19-25 depicts a fine picture in general. America collectively would be wise to consider it.
