Just make sure the opening is clean and unblocked, since you say she appears to be breathing out of it.
She may have caught herself on something like a wire end or another sharp protrusion.
She won't suffer too much if she doesn't have anything to eat for a day, but keep fresh water and food available in case she decides she wants it. There's no need to force her.
Bring her to the vet as soon as you can after the holiday. This sounds like something more than a home remedy can take care of.

This might be an abscess that opened leaving a hole. She may have been bitten but you did not notice it. She must see a Vet as the wound might be so deep that infection has spread. If the cat will not eat you know something is wrong.
If it is an abcess, the Vet will clean it out, and give antibiotics.
You probably have an emergency clinic in your area. These are usually open 24 hrs, 7days a week.

I had a cat with a hole in it's neck too. I put ointment on it and it never got better. I took him to my Vet and we found out there was a big larvae of some kind in the hole. and he had to cut the hole larger to pull this green Caterpillar out My cat got bitten as a young kitten and at about 5 months he wasn't meowing, just made squeaking sounds. After the surgery you couldn't shut him up.

It could be an abscess that burst, or possibly a botfly larva (warbles). I would definitely see if you can find an ER vet as the sooner the wound is looked at, the better (and cheaper) the outcome is likely to be. Often if you call your normal vet after hours, there will be a recording stating which vet in your area is handing after hours cases.

Sounds like a puncture wound, or a bite that has become abcessed. My cat was bitten by another cat, and it looked like a hole with drainage. The vet put her on antibiotics and she was fine. See your vet ASAP!

There should be emergency vets available! I don't know where you live but I'll give you the number for the one in Brookpark, OH. They're open now and are on every holiday. Maybe they can answer questions, not sure. 216-362-6000. Also, try vaseline. It doesn't harm them if they lick it.
