I noticed that the leader of LDS group is a President so I guess it's just a business. As Christians we have Bishops, Popes, Pastors etc. Why is the leader of the Mormons a corporate position rather than parochial vocation?

I doubt seriously that no other church denomination has no one at the helm, nationally.

Our president is also a prophet, seer and revelator.

President Hinckley is referred to as President as a sign of respect and leadership. He is the president of the church and the actions it takes. Most of these actions are spiritual in nature and contribute to proclaiming the gospel and serving the members. In order to accomplish these goals the church does have a part in the business world. It is not well known that the LDS church has a HUGE humanitarian effort that sends tons of food, clothing and other hygiene supplies to struggling nations in Africa, South America and Asia. This is able to be done through the tithes of the members of the church and the monies and connections from having a business for customs and dealing with other governments. Did you know that after Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Southern Asia the LDS church was one of the first to respond with water and other supplies before the federal govt was able to come? Because of some of the business ventures the LDS church is involved in, many people have a better life. Also the leaders of the church are not making ANY money off of these businesses. Most leaders of the church use their own money to serve in different positions and still pay the 10% of their income to tithing. I would urge you to listen to President Hinckley speak of the blessings that the business side of the church provide. He is a wonderful, humble man who has a sincere love to serve the people of the world and is a prophet of God.

Gordon B. Hinckley holds the titles Prophet, Seer, Revelator, and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Twelve Apostles, male missionaries, and male General Authorities go by the title Elder.

Bishops preside over individual congregations, called wards (comes from Old English meaning stewardship).

The Church itself is a sect, but it does own companies and corporations. IRI (Intellectual Reserves, Inc) is the legal entity which holds the intellectual property (such as copyrights) for the Church. HRI (Hawaii Reserves, Inc) is the legal entity which handles the Church's land in Hawaii. Etc.

The Mormons ARE Christians.

And the President is just a name for the leader of the church, those are not the people who preach every sunday.

All males in the church 12 and over are priests, anyone of them can lead services and bless the communion any week they want, but the president is the one who over sees the things in the church. Like if they need something, they're the ones you go to.

P.S. The President of the ENTIRE church, is the Prophet....president is just a word, nothing more.

We call him the President of the church, but he is actually a Prophet. We too have Bishops (in a different sense than most Christians), Stake Presidents (not in a business sense), Patriarch, Quorum of the Seventy, and Apostles. There are many other church offices but they are not voted in like you would think. We believe they are chosen through inspiration given by the Holy Ghost, and then they are sustained by the members of the church.

It is a religion. Otherwise why would you be asking this in the religion & spirituality section?

LDS have bishops, deacons, prophets, apostles, and prophets.
I don't recall there being any Popes in the BIble.
Pastors are also debateable if they were in the Bible.

Believe me, it's a religion with all of the rites, ceremonies, unique beliefs, etc. They are pretty different in their beliefs from other Christians. They refer to Gordon B. Hinkley as the president of their church, but they also refer to him as a prophet. They have some really obscure and complicated ceremonies attached to some of their less publicly known practices.

Who's feeding you all of these asinine questions? You're obviously out to solicit hate and dissention -

The leader of the Church is the PRESIDENT OF THE CHURCH - and happens to be the President of the business affairs of the church - You act as though the Pope has no involvement in the financial affairs of the Catholic church?

The Mormon Church does have Bishops, Priests, Deacons, etc.

your comments are offending - if that is your intent, fine.

If your intent is truly seeking information about the church, perhaps you could change your tone?

Unlike the Prophets of old who were chosen from divine inspiration from Allah, the Mormons elect a new Prophet every time the old one dies. They say he is chosen from inspiration from the holy spirit (ghost) but who is recieving this inspiration? Mormons forbid drinking of caffiene, yet they own the largest stock of Pepsi, they forbid drinking and gambling and smoking, yet once again, they own stock in companies that provide all of these products. Just something to ponder.
