In democracy the tradition of election is the best & only legally recognized way to select & elect the best from the number of candidates opting for any position in any public place. It is the constitutional right of any citizen to stand for any election to any public position if he is legally eligible to do so & how can any one ask him not to do so? What you call highest tradition of democracy I would like to remind you in line of this tradition whenever any thing happened wrong in the department or the ministry there was a time when the concerned Union Minister used to take the moral responsibility & used to resign as the Minister, that happened last time when Nitish Kumar as a Union Railway Minister resigned during NDA government , how many times Lalo Prasad Yadav has resigned since so many incidence have happened during his present tenure as the Railway Minister on the moral ground & in order to keep the interest of the High tradition of democracy ? When it comes to highest tradition of Democracy you people look for non Congress people to follow it & what about that for Congress people & its allies? Although I am myself is in favor of a Lady President for the first time in India but now after so many skeletons coming out of the closet of Pratiba Patil I myself feel she herself should have withdrawn from this race in the interest of highest tradition of democracy.

Democracy requires elections. Nothing wrong in his contest.
All earlier candidates including the present President were
elected after contests.
But it is unfortunate, our present Vice President, though he was three times Chief Minister from BJP was contesting this election as an independent candidate. Why he is camouflaging .? Is it to attract votes from regional parties who are afraid to identify with BJP.
It is a pity , a party ruled this country with both Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister , the BJP, is not able to file a candidate of it's own.
Another aspect of this election is the character assassination. How leaders like Adwaniji can do that ?

Top of it is asking voters - MPs & MLAs to cross vote in the name of consciousness. If on the same analogy can BJP members are permitted to vote on their consciousness to Mrs.Patel, all the more because that party has not filed it's own candidate ? How can they give whip to their members here after on any future voting inParliament or Assemblies ?

Really by blaming Mrs.Patel our Vice -President's past history is reopened by Opposition parties.Oh ! How many skeletons in the cuboard ?
So all politicians are one and the same. Politicans are politicians !!! God fearing, good conduct and character are all only for common man.

Yes I agree with you he must withdraw on moral ground also since he doesn't have required number of votes in his favour and he is only banking on cross voting that is an act of killing of democracy.
