I dont know what to believe anymore. I feel like I have my own "beliefs" but sometimes they tend to contradict themselfs. I wish I had stronger religion in my household growing up. I do believe in God. Is that enough?

You should be grateful you did not have a strong religious environment in your house when growing up= it can really mess you up. Now you get to formulate your own beliefs and actually think things through instead of blindly accepting everything that is fed to you.

I can't believe that you got so many people answer that hate Jesus! No wonder your confused.

The spark is there! The very fact that you are asking the questions you are show me that GOD is working in your life! Your doing something right when GOD continues to encourage you to seek after HIM!

Trust in Jesus. He is the one who gave His life on the cross so that you can be united with GOD! It was the work He did on the cross when he paid the penalty for your sin! Trust in Him and you'll be fine!

Read your bible! That is a recommendation I make to anyone who has doubts or questions about issues of faith! There is a big difference between knowing what the bible says, and spouting some misquoted, out of context, verse that has nothing at all to do with the truth! If you read your bible, then you'll be able to tell what people say is really what the bible says or not!

Don't be misled! Take responsibility for your faith and learn as much as you can about how Jesus demonstrated His love for you and the rest of the world through his actions! He healed the sick, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and most importantly, taught the ignorant!

You are headed in the right direction! Keep going and don't let those who have no idea what the bible teaches mislead you along the way!

God Bless

A belief in God is crucial. I am a Deist. So are you. A Deist is a person who believes in a Creator, a God without necessarily having any particular religion.

Thomas Jefferson was a Deist. He wrote in the Declaration of Independence, " We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. Among these are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Not bad for a non-religious guy. What do those words mean? They mean that our rights come from God and not from any government. That means they cannot be taken away by any government.

The idea that the final determination of right and wrong is God's is known as Moral Absolutism. It is the basis for our government and allows more liberty and freedom than any other government on earth.

So, yes. A belief in God as the final arbiter of right and wrong is all that is required. If you find a religion that helps you and supports you that is good. Believe in God and be a good person.

No, just saying you believe in God is not enough.

I believe in Satan, but that doesn't mean I'm going to hell (at least I hope not). If believing in God made one go to heaven, then it's suffice to say vise versa.

Your best bet is to read up on a few churches, visit them and talk to the priests there. They can help you find the stability of religion that you sound like you are craving. Most priests have no problem talking to you and are willing to talk to outside of church as well about any concerns you may have.

I know that when my mother and I were looking at churches, we visited Methodist, Catholic, Baptist, Non-denominational and a few others that I can't remember (I was 12) and after looking at all of them, we both felt a strong draw to the Catholic faith.

Also, have you researched any of your beliefs? Sometimes you'll find that just by looking, something you believed is completely false or cleared up and that's a contradiction or two gone.

Believing in God is all you need. Don't give up. I hold to no religion myself but I've always believed in God. It's not a Christian, Jewish, Buhddist or whatever God, it's just something I know exists that I can put my trust in. You're not the only one out there, either. There's a lot of us out here. And ... it's okay. Contradictions are some of the best things we can learn from. Seeing them upfront and knowing what they are is pretty big. Good on you for seeing that much. There are tons of people who go through their lives living in denial of their contradictions.

Yes, that is enough, you believe in God. What else is there, really?

I went to Catholic school, my father is very religious and yet I decided a long time a go,when I was 10 or 12, that I would believe in my own way. Back then I was already having problems with organized religion and questioning the whole evolution-dinosaur vs garden of Eden/Adam & Eve dilemma.
Be true to yourself, your believes, and live and happy honest life.

Do not make the mistake of getting caught up in religious doctrine. There are too many truths to focus on in the Bible that are clear and concrete. Jesus condemned the religious leaders of his day for the legalistic way they went about the worship of God. He taught the greater aspects of what God wants us to focus on. For instance, they were caught up in the insignificant details of the law and forgot that the God we worship is a God of love and compassion. He taught us how to know God. What awesome qualities of forgiveness and grace that Christ demonstrated! The clergy at that time were forgetful of these things and were hung up on such legalism that many people were stumbled by religion in those days. Always focus on the message of Christ and you won't go wrong.

You can have a strong relationship with the Lord that is not contingent on what your parents had.But it is not enough to just believe that God exists, you must seek Him out. The Bible says that even Satan believes that God exists!
All you have to do is ask that the Lord would come into your heart and ask that He show you who He is. He is looking for those such as yourself who really seek Him out. Of course, there is a need of repenting of ones sins and acknowledging our need for the sacrifice that Christ made for you at the cross. Read your Bible and ask for the Lord to enlighten you. Turn to him with an honest and sincere heart. Find a Bible based church that teaches scripture. Ask the Lord to lead you and walk with you every day. He will never let you down. May the Lord bless you and walk with you.....always!

Hi to truly answer your question having your own beliefs will most definitely have contradictions and the labels that the general "religious groups" labels will have there's also. But there is one thing that you know in your heart that faith identifies is that you believe in the God that put his holy word here for us all as en-sample to know and hear and do for his Glory and your salvation. You keep believing and seeking God for your own salvation and the reward will be Great and i tell you this nothing in this world cannot compared to what God has in store for you...In Jesus name Amen.read the Bible with and open heart and get to know God for yourself..

Second person pretty much stated how I found my own sort of, kind of religion. I have no idea what to call it. Meh. It satisfies my needs and sees to the well being of my mind which appearantly helps see to the well being of my body (some vague clinical study showed those with a religious belief were more fit physically or something like that)

A belief in god and a sense of right and wrong should be the teachings of a religion. Don't worry there's many people with the same views as you and quite frankly there the best for the modern world.

I agree with dw03038. I didn't have a good religious background growing up either. Try a few Baptist churches. Read the New Testament. Pray to God. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. I became a born-again Christian in my late 20's after a lot of pointless living. It's not enough just to believe in God. You need the Lord Jesus Christ in your life.
I'll pray for you.
