Well the first soldiers in Afghanistan were Army and Air Force.

The first in Iraq were Army, navy, marines and Air Force.

It all depends on the mission.

Ok if you are asking the question is the army better than the MARINES i have to say first off the you need to research the different branches of service and secondly you need to learn some history.

Marines were established to protect the navy. What that evolved into is known as Amphibious landings. The marines would be the FIRST to land somewhere take on the enemy clear a path so that the army could then easily land. This is where the first to fight slogan came about. also during Vietnam MARINE RECON teams would locate enemy bases and then bring in wither a battalion of marines or army to attack the base. In regards to Iraq and Afghanistan the first troops were Sp. Ops Marine Recon, Navy seals, but the first fighting forces? Marines.

If everybody could join it wouldn't be called the Marines.

ARMY v. Marines PT: the army pft only consist of a 2 mile run some sit ups and push ups. The MARINE PFT is 3 mile run, pull ups, and crunches.

If you notice on the commercials and almost all the ads for the army they show that you can be a technician or a supply personnel which i am not saying are bad jobs, they have to be done. They also talk a lot about money for college, Marines don't get the same incentive monies for college. That's because to be a Marine you have to want to be a Marine, you have to have the tenacity and determination it takes to be one of the FEW.

In deciding between the two you need to ask yourself why do i wanna serve. If you want a challenge, if you want a life altering experience and if you want to change peoples lives and make a difference in the world then check out the MARINES. The Marines are tough kid, its not going to be easy, but if you make if through you can forever call yourself one of THE FEW. THE PROUD. THE MARINES!

Have you ever heard someone say 'I'm an Army?'
I bet you have heard or will hear someone say 'I'm a Marine!'

A long time ago that might have been true. The biggest difference between what the Marines do and what we do now is that the Army is much larger and self sustaining. We're fighting an unconventional war, so no one is stuck in roles as either an invading force or a sustaining force unless you're talking about duration of deployment. The Marines do 7-9 months depending on the type of unit, the Army does 12-15 months. You'll get to fight either way, so I guess it comes down to how long you want to be in the suck.

You need to join the Marines, they will give you lessons that will carry you through life making a positive change that others will notice and compliment you on for the rest of your life. You will learn how to be a true member of a team. Join the Army and you will be nothing but a soldier who only cares about himself and lacks discipline and good moral standards. Ex-Army people are true snakes in the grass, they will try to screw a good Marine everytime, fortunately the Marine will always prevail as they have the very best training. Semper Fi

Sorry, jarhead, but no. Marines are not always the first to fight. If you do want to get into an organization that will be the first into battle the marines is not a bad place to start.
You need to realize that special ops will be the first ones in.
Remember Afganistan? Who went in first? Army rangers and Air Force fire directors.
Who was the first in Iraq? Both times? Navy SEALS (water access existed).
Join whatever service willoffer you the most and get the most out of it.
This goes against every bit of common sense, but, if you want to do the absolutly best in the military...
VOLUNTEER FOR EVERYTHING!
Combat verteran grunts will tell you this is nuts.
Special ops (Green Beannies, Rangers, Force Recon, SEALS and whatever the AF calls their special ops people) will tell you it's the greatest thing they could possibly have done with their lives.

I think US Soldier has his facts backwards. When the 1st Marine Division pushed through Iraq in 03, it was comprised of mostly Marines. There was an army unit that was attached to us. But the Marines took charge, and ran through this shi!hole. It was the Marines turning the secured areas over to the soldiers.

Generally, the Marines are the first in, because we always have forces ready to deploy. There's always Marine Expedionary Unit's in the water, just waiting for something to happen, and to get called up.

While every service has their own special forces, and those Spec ops guys are able to go in ahead of time, they're not neccesarily the first guys to fight. they can be used for recon missions, etc..

But as i said, GENERALLY, the Marines are the First to Fight. We're the shock force. Hit'em hard, and hit'em fast, so they don't have time to respond, or react.

It depends on the military situation.

All of the services have special operations forces which can be inserted ahead of regular troops. The Air Force has special teams that go in ahead of paratroops when there is an airdrop. The Army has Special Forces, and the Navy has SEALS. The Marines are specialized in amphibious operations and have no equal in that area.

These special operations units can go in separately or together when needed. It depends on the mission and the situation.

The problem with all of them, including the Marines, are that they are not designed to be defensive forces, so they have little or no staying power. They have to be reinforced or relieved once their initial mission is complete.

There is no dishonor in being part of a clean-up force. Those are the forces that actually win the wars.

If you like the Marines join them.

By tradition the Marines go in first. The Army is an occupying force. Then if the Army loses it, they call the Marines back to retake it and get all the Army gear they left behind. (Check out Chosin Reservoir during Korea and Marine Colonel Chesty Puller)

There not first any more then the army, marines are crazy but not any more special then the army is.It usually the army doing most of the main work and we hand over cleared areas to the marines to hold while we move forward, that how we have done it every time we have been there.Marines are some hard working guys/women but we had to bail the marines out many of times in towns such as Fuji when we handed it over to them 3 times and each time with in 48 hours we had to take the town back. When they lost control of a few cities we hand over to them we where wanting to give them cover and support to help them and they refused our help and took a heavy casualties. The General that we report to gave us permission to take over control of the units in that area and get it under controlled. The marines are great guys/gals but don't believe all the hype you here. They work just as much and as hard as anyone else, but when they get into trouble there not very open to help even though their survival depends on it.There tough fighers but not the brightest tactics

Special Ops has yet to win any wars or armed conflicts.
The Marines and Army Air-born have similar roles, they both go in early and are expected to act as shock forces till the larger Army force can be deployed. In to days world they have overlapping joint exercises. Strange twist the new head honcho in Iraq is a Navy Admiral.
