Simple: The war in Iraq was started about WMD.

Saddam was trying to attain them.
Saddam wanted the world to believe he had them.
Many intelligence agencies had 'proof' he had them, including the Egyptians and Jordanians.
Saddam had been shooting at our planes for over a decade.
Saddam tried to assassinate one of our presidents.
Saddam was supporting terrorism in *Israel* by giving $25k per suicide bomber.
Saddam was killing tens of thousands of his own people, including through the use of chemical weapons on the Kurds.
Saddam's sons were raping women and literally feeding them to the lions.
Saddam had denied UN weapons inspectors access for years, which were authorized by the cease fire agreement of 1991 and under several UN resolutions.

That's how we got there, plus the fact that there were reports he was attempting to make contact with Al-Qaeda, one of which was later discredited.

Why we are still there is a different story.

We have been rebuilding the country.
Helping it to establish a new, democratic government.
Helping it to build hospitals, schools and infrastructure.
Helping it to build a police force and military.
Al-Qaeda decided to make that the battlefield rather than Afghanistan.
We are fighting them there now.
The Sunni's, who originally supported Al-Qaeda, have turned against them.
The Shi'a who originally supported us have seen some support from Iran.
The Kurds who always opposed Saddam are opposed by every country in the region.

And it is true that OBL hated Saddam.
And NO, OBL was not trained by the CIA or US. He refused to even talk to US agents. We did train others to fight the Russians.

This is the truth, regardless of anything the conspiracy theorists will use to say otherwise.

First off, the War in Iraq has nothing to do with bin Laden or al-Qaeda. That is one of the myths fabricated by the Bush Administration for the United States to have a reason to invade Iraq. The second myth was for weapons of mass destruction.

The War in Iraq was about revenge against Saddam Hussein about him going after the elder Bush. But more importantly, it was about getting their greedy paws on the Iraqi Oil Reserves. I read some where, that Iraq has the second largest oil supply in the Middle East behind Saudi Arabia.

But in the process, these idiots that dreamed this up didn't understand the people and/or culture over there. They didn't understand that despite Saddam's heavy handed rule, he was keeping a lid on the sectarian fighting.

Because they removed him from power, they are stuck in the middle of a civil war. They would have been better if they had left well enough alone. Sometimes it is best to deal with what you know instead of what you don't know.

As for bin Laden, he is a product of the Afghanistan War with Russia in the 1980s. The CIA trained a lot of people from the region in order to fight the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. In other words, the Reagan Administration created him by training and equipping him.

I see that they've not learned their lesson by doing that. They're training the Iraqis now. I read that they are now arming the Sunnis. Can we say never ending cycle?

First of all, forget Bin Laden and Al Qaeda in relation to the Iraq War. They have nothing to do with it.

The war is the fault of the Neocons, who for many years were pushing for us to invade Iraq. They woulkd use Saddam Hussein being a menace, Saddam Hussein being a bad guy, anything to sell it.

When 9/11 happened it was a gift for them-- they used our outrage over it to get us to go along with their war that they wanted long before 9/11. Frank Luntz , the GOP's Orwellian media adviser told them "Never mention Iraq without also mentioning 9/11 and the War on Terror." They werre consistent in that. So at the time the war began, over 60% of the American people bought the suggestion that Saddam had something to do with it.

But it was all an excuse. Their real purpose: To remake the Middle East , plant Democray, and make the world safe for Israel. Thus they have Divided Loyalties-- they were all about using US muscle to fight Israel's enemies for them.

It has been an abject disaster. Israel is no better off, and neither are we.

THAT is the Iraq War.

OSama Bin Laden hated America once he found out we were supplying Iraq with weapons and armament in the 80s. He was pissed that we could do such a thing. Only he was supposed to be receiving arms from the US governement.

America needs more oil. Iraq has it. Saddam was an international pariah and America thought it would get world wide support to topple him and then they could gain control of the oil by putting american corporations in charge of pumping it.
Unfortunately the world was not fooled (except for Blair) and other countries opposed the invasion while a few others only sent token forces..
The result is the horrible mess we see today where America is defeated if it stays and defeated if it retreats.
The other countries involved are gradually pulling out.

Bush learned of a super sounding idea to control a Middle East Country with oil that sits right in the Middle of the Middle East. It also would in the minds of the planners allow the United States to intimidate Iran and Syria.
The plan was just to good to be true. All that Bush had to do was ignore the warnings of a pending attack by Al Quida on the United States to get the Country ready to strike back and then over run Iraq, and Bang Bush is sitting in the cat seat!
The problem was and is, that Bush and his hand picked inner circle knew nothing about the people of Iraq and how they would respond to an American Attack.
The Irony is that Bush is still planning to achieve his goal! But, there is one small problem, Bush and his inner circle are not capable of learning anything, so it is all going to be a disaster for the United States of America, and we Americans well have to pick up the pieces and put Humpty Dumpty Back Together Again, if we can.

First off, Al Qaeda had absolutely nothing to do with the Iraq war except insomuch that the Bush administration would use "Iraq" and "Al Qaeda" in the same sentence to solidify a nonexistent connection in the minds of his follows. Bush and his people used manipulation techniques to get us into a war for oil profits, not thinking about what the outcome might be, whereas his father knew that Iran and Iraq were counterbalancing each other, not letting either side gain too much power. With Iraq in ruins, Iran has emerged as a real threat to the world, unlike Iraq who was only a threat to itself.

It started in the late 80s. Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, one of our allies. After the invasion, President Bush handed Hussein a ceasefire agreement on a silver platter. As part of that agreement, Hussein had to let UN weapons inspectors inspect his armories to look for weapons of mass destruction, which include nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Hussein violated this ceasefire repeatedly.

Fast forward to 1998: President Clinton signed the Iraqi Liberation Bill, which called for the liberation of Iraq and the establishment of democracy here. Looks like the second President Bush took him up on it.

Al Qaeda means the list or the database (the source) Bin Laden didnt start using it till after the US started calling his group Al Qaeda. MI5 agents would often joke when ever they were late for work or made a mistake theyd be put on "the list" apparently it was a great inside joke amongst govt covert agencies at the time.

Bin Laden was trained up by the CIA to use his Mujahadeen fighters against the Russians who had moved into Afganistan. This area was where the US corporation UNOCAL wanted to build an oil pipeline through to India.
The US didnt want Russia anywhere near the vast oil reserves in the Caspian sea area and the Taleban wouldnt let UNOCAL build their pipeline so the Taleban had to go.

Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians. Inexplicably, and with disastrous consequences,

The danger now is that the west's current response to the terrorist threat compounds that original error. So long as the struggle against terrorism is conceived as a war that can be won by military means, it is doomed to fail.

The more the west emphasises confrontation, the more it silences moderate voices in the Muslim world who want to speak up for cooperation.

The US and UK went into to occupy Afghanistan in 2001 because 911 had everyone hopping mad about OBL. What the world wasnt told is that Bush s advisors and puppetmasters had started planning for an invasion of Afghanistan at least 1 year before he even got into office.

One more reason the taleban were ousted is because they hated the heroin trade that was going on, they hated the fact that their countrymen were growing opium poppies to sell to western drug dealers. So they banned the growing of opium poppies there. Since the Taleban have been ousted the world wide heroin production has soared....all thanks to the US invading Afghanistan.....once all that was working smoothly, the US started fabricating intel against Saddam Hussien. First they told us he had Weapons of mass destruction (that was a lie) then they told us that Saddam was looking for yellow cake uranium in Africa, (that lie was based on a plagiarised essay written by a university student)

1) Ever since the day Bush came into office, him and his administration were planning an attack on Iraq while ignoring warnings from the CIA that bin Laden was determined to attack the U.S. They held no meeting on bin Laden until after 9/11 but instead focused on attacking Iraq.

2) 9/11 happened and we attacked Afghanistan, the country that harbored bin Laden and his al-Qaeda.

3) In 2002, the Bush Administration tried to build support for an attack on Iraq by claiming that Saddam Hussein had a hand in 9/11 and ties to al-Qaeda as well as harbored nuclear weapons, most of the oblvious Americans believed this bullsh*t.

4) In late 2002, Bush sent in weapons inspectors into Iraq although he had already planned to attack it whether or not weapons of mass destruction were found. He thought that the weapons inspectors would definitely find weapons.

5) By March of 2003, no weapons of mass destruction had been found, and Bush was worried that they will find no weapons so he told the inspectors to get out of Iraq and went on to attack Iraq. No weapons have been found to this day.

6) In 2003 we destroyed the Saddam Hussein's government. This was very unfortunate because while Saddam dominated Iraq and he did not even give an ounce of power to anyone else but himself. He would never let a terrorist draw influence in his country. He saw Osama bin Laden as a threat to his influence and power. Also, Osama bin Laden hated Saddam Hussein because in Osama's words, Saddam was a bad Muslim. In fact, in the first Gulf War in the early nineties, Osama bin Laden offered his own al-Qaeda men to the Saudi government to FIGHT Saddam Hussein but the Saudis refused his help and instead took the help of the Americans (which is one of the reasons why bin Laden hates America).

7) While under Saddam Hussein no terrorist would even have dreamed of causing any havoc in Iraq because he would be murdered by Saddam, nowadays Iraq is the place to be for any terrorist. Also, while under Saddam Hussein Iran or Turkey would not have ever been able to send their own weapons or militia men into Iraq, they are both free to do so now. Osama bin Laden is also free to enter Iraq while before he would have been killed by Saddam Hussein.

8) So I guess Bush is right. We have freed Iraq...for the terrorists.
