I know some people at one point or another have had a run in with an officer for something good or bad. Why do they sit and gripe about them, put them down and call them names? But when they need help for something like an accident, someone stole something from them, or a deomestic dispute they run to the phone to call...you got it the police! Then they expect the police to come running and to help them out and they want it done yesterday! Police work is a very stressful, 24/7 dangerous job that doesn't pay much, but can be only for the right person. Around here you are "on call" at any moment for any kind of disaster, or major problem. You get phone calls all the time from people you have delt with wanting something else or needing your guidance. If you are on the swat team or a K-9 officer you can get called out anytime, anyday. You are here to serve, protect and uphold the law and help out your city, town or county. So before you badmouth one you should live in their shoes a day.

To Nicky C:
1. If you have a clean record, both driving and criminal, how have you come to have a bad taste for cops. Because by your statements, it appears that you have had encounters, but no record. Did an officer give you a break or were you found not guilty.
2. I treat people the way I want to be treated until they do not allow me to anymore.
3. We pay taxes too and a lot of people call us for stuff that does not apply to our duties, yet we still help them because that is why I took the job. Citizens waste more of your tax money than we do.
4. And I am sorry if you feel that we act as if we are judge, jury, and executioner, but there is one thing I think that a lot of people don't understand and it takes a while for an officer to overcome this. The constitution states that a person is innocent until proven guilty. How does one apply that concept when you witness the crime take place???
5. I won't apologize for what you feel officers have done to you, but I hope that you encounter an officer that gives you the service you deem you are entitled too and that you find that we are not bad people, just people working in a bad environment. Good Luck

Most people who gripe don't understand police work. They don't understand way jumping out the car during a car stop is a horrible idea and they take offense when they are yelled at for it.

People these days live in their own little world and don't research anything out of it. So if something doesn't fit what they expect, then it is wrong.

You also have the liars and people who will twist the truth so they can make the police look bad instead of taking responsibility for their own actions.

Okay, here you go. I will explain it to you.
#1 I do not appreciate ( and I am sure I speak for a lot of us) ANYBODY power tripping or disrespecting me, if I have done something ( I have a clean driving record and no criminal history btw) then just do your job without all the added ego inflating crap.
#2 I do not ( again, I speak for most ) need or want a hypocrit carrying a gun and bullying our citizens.
Definanition of hypocrit{ cheater, deceiver, pretender, dissembler, fake, fraud, charlatan.
#3 you are absolutley correct, if someone steals from me or commits another crime against me or in front of me I call the police.
I do DEMAND (and follow up with the report to be sure it is done) they do what MY tax dollars are paying them to do. To the best of their often limited abilities.
As for your gripe about the pay vs job demand.
It was the cops CHOICE to be a cop. It is also the cops choice to tell the truth and be a good example to fellow officers and the community in which the cop lives and works.
Cops often 'forget' (or maybe they were never taught any different) that they are not judge and they are not jury AND they are not executioners. or at least they are not supposed to be. Not in the job description.

I agree with you that they do have a hard job & should be respected but in some parts like where I live (small town)when most people grow up with the people they have a hard time respecting them cuz they know what they did when they where growing up & the accidents they had gotten into because of their late night parting & what not.

I know from personal experience that not all officers even know the law, let alone uphold it. There seems to be the beginnings of an epidemic of untrustworthy police officers. This is certainly not to say that most officers aren't great people and great at their jobs. It's just that there's more publicity going into "bad cops" and there are good and bad in EVERY profession (lawyers??). Lighten up, and be glad that you live in a country that's still free enough that people CAN say something negative and not mysteriously disappear.

Because it is easier to blame the officers that arrested them, than it is to accept responsibility for their actions that got them into trouble.
