Two of our three dogs are terrified with thunder and fireworks.
Our lab hides in the bathtub and our schnauzer crawls under a bed.
Whatever room they are in, we place a fan, or radio on to sort of drown out the noise.
Yes, they can still hear it, but it does help.
We play with them, trying to distract them.
There is a new product out called Comfort Zone which was given to me at Petsmart. It is for these symptoms you mention.
I haven't used it yet, probably tomorrow I will use it. It is not a medication that you give them, some sort of fragrant that helps them calm down.

Fireworks are painful for dogs. It hurts their ears and frightens them. They are much more sensitive to these sounds than we are, plus, we know what is going on and they don't. Find a place they can stay that will be more soundproof (maybe an interior bathroom that has no windows) and safe for them. Make a nice bed for them so they will feel safe and their ears will not have to endure the sounds. The only other alternative is to ask the vet for something to calm the dog down. That is pretty severe, so see if you can find an alternative to drugs.

Give him a safe place to hide. My dog is also afraid of fireworks and thunder. We let him find a safe place (usually under the bed, which is comical as he is a german shep./doberman mix). If you think his fear has gone too far, you may want to get some tranquilizers from the vet. But you have to give them to him before the fireworks start or else they won't work. If he feels safe in his kennel, let him get in there. Do not keep him outside for long periods of time, if you can help it, when you know there will be fireworks...that's cruel.

Dogs hear at much higher frequencies than we do, and the fireworks are VERY painful for them. Use a sedative to put the dog to sleep for the evening. You will enjoy the fireworks and you will save your dog a lot of discomfort in the process.

Dogs hearing levels are MUCH more sensitive than ours & chances are the loud fireworks not only scare your pooch but more than likely hurt his ears. My best advice is to keep Fido inside away from the festivities..it may seem cruel as he cant be out of doors to celebrate w you but Im sure he be much happier & in much less pain. There are LOTS & LOTS of dogs who dont celebrate the 4th w their families due to this problem & its much healthire mentally to keep them inside where they can relax & be less stressed....if the sounds inside are bothersome to you pooch still you can either look in to getting a mild sedative through your vet or you can buy baby sedatives are your local pharmacy(you go by weight & add it to their water) the baby sedatives are cheap, not long lasting & they just ease them either into sleep or just calms them down & lets them relax.BEst of luck!

I use an over the counter chew medication to relax my dog in times of stress..... car rides, fireworks, thunderstorms. It's like when a person takes a medication prior to flying. You give it to the dog for situations, not daily. Good luk

Ive never has an issue with that. A friend of mine puts a t-shirt on her pooch and says it helps a bit. Also there are tranqualizers, talk to the vet if his fear is that intense.
