Hey Pooh Bear since you mention that your Dr. recomends weight gain I can tell you how to gain muscle the fastest way possible. It is a method called anarobic lifting. It is simple and quick and it will make your muscles very sore in 2 to 3 days after lifting. Done properly and loyaly you will see results by summers end. Anarobic means the lack of oxygen use for fuel. Arobic excersize uses oxygen in your blood to burn stored energy [fat] or what ever calories you have available. Anarobic lifting will litterally burn the muscle as fuel and done properly this will signal to your body to build more muscle in case it happens again. See the logic? Again I fore warn that your muscles will be very sore so drink lots of water to help romove the lactic acids. You should be drinking at least 50oz. a day anyway and lots of stretching to make room for the new muscle to develope. OK the lifting take the heaviest amount of weight that you can lift safely and lift it methodically and as quickly as you can for 6 to 10 times then stop. Wait 2 to 3 min. for the blood flow to return to normal and repeat. Do this 3 or 4 times and you are done for the day, it's that simple. Oh don't forget to stretch. You could do legs in the morning and arms at night and then repeat the whole process every few days. you can do something arobic in between lifting days it will help with the soreness but try to remain fairly inactive as possible on lifting days. I must add the disclaimer that i think lifting weights will cause excess strain on your joints at such a young age and would not normally recomend it. I also would recomend a protein powder and lots of fresh fruit especially cantilope, blueberries, cherries and pommegranit juice. please let me know what rout you choose and how it works for you OK? Good Luck and GOD Bless you.

Think of it this way.... your body needs food to use to gain muscle. If you lift weights and have not eaten anything, then the body will use your fat reserves and you will lose weight. If you give your body food, then work out, you will gain muscle, and by gaining muscle, you gain weight! I'm sure you mean "gain weight" by muscle and not fat. Nobody actually WANTS to be fat, right? Muscle weighs more than fat. By a lot. Don't get discouraged though. It's good you are getting yourself into a workout routine at 13... but your muscles won't kick in until your testosterone does. At about 16-18. Be careful with lifting too much weight. It can stunt your growth. I have three brothers. One was involved in football and he worked out all the time from the age of 12. He's pretty short compared to my other two brothers who are over 6 feet tall. Keep your weight lifting under 30 lbs until you see your body changing from advanced puberty or you can do damage. Ask your mom about consulting a trainer. That will go a LONG way towards helping you get the results you want.

1] don't worry so much about gaining weight - it's not like you are anorexic, is it? Do you get regular periods? Then don't worry.
I never weighed over 110 until I had my first baby at 28 - you could still see all my ribs until I was 6 months pregnant! My cousin is 5'7", and only 100 pounds, but had three babies in four years..
Weight will come, because your metabolism slows down 10% every 10 years. In 20 yrs., it will have slowed down 19%. I started gaining a lot at 35 - so did my mom, sister, other sister, etc.
Eat a healthy diet - avoid fried, fast, and junk food - even diet junk food.
Drink 1/2 gallon of water a day.
Take a multivitamin with minerals every day.
Do three sets each of ten reps every day - pushups, situps, obliques, and crunches.
Do aerobics for at least 30 minutes, 3 x a week.

Most women wish they had your problem. Keep lifting, and pretty much eat whatever you want. The protein bars, and shakes should help out alot too!!

You're too young for weight lifting. It will do you no good at an early age. Try to increase your carbohydrate intake so that your body will gain weight. Weightlifting needs extra energy so if you utilised your energy for that activity your body will accumulate the nutrients, instead you will consume it.

Protein is not going to cause you to gain weight, unless you eat an awful lot of it. Carbohydrates and fats cause faster weight gain. Eating foods like rice, potatoes, popcorn, corn, and bread will help. So will fatty foods like peanut butter and nuts.

Basically, you need to consume more calories than you burn. Go on a site that shows what a healthy calorie intake would be for you, and up it by a thousand.
