Making up for lack of past maintenance? Car over 70,000 miles allow a transmission shop to do a fluid analysis first You may drain away what is keeping the car moving. To drain many cars you have to remove the transmission oil pan. Some cars have a drain plug (stop) unless you know where to put the fresh fluid. Most drain and fill the oil pan does not get all the fluid out. Commercial flushing equipment gets all the old fluid out and replaces it with new inside the torque converter and all.

To the hyundai service manager i worked at a hyundai dealership for almost 2 years and I flushed at least 200 transmissions at hyundai and we flush with 12 and sometimes if it's really dirty it would need the full 16 qts. 8 is only half but you are right about the drain plug and the 4 qts, you forgot to mention the fact that you need a certain fluid SPIII Hyundai transmission fluid.
The awnser to your question is that there is a drain plug it's a torx bit and you need at least 4 qts. refill through the dipstick let the car run once done let it run for at least 30 min. if its warm out the trans fluid has to be hot and the trans has to be in neutral to check properly there is a hot line if it is a little shy on the stick add another 1/4 a qt. let it settle and get hot about 15 min. then re-check repeat as necessary.

is best to have it done not that its hard to do but is much easier if on a lift... guessing id buy attest six quarts might not need them all ask the parts store they should be able to help with that id just take it some wheres... but is a small pan on bottom of trans not many bolts loosen them slowly til fluid starts coming out go slowly removing the one at a time making sure you dont drop it all the way you will need a big catch pan gasket filter and sealant dealers are the highest place any trans shop should do it call around and see whos around town that does that work

I would suggest taking it to a shop that can do a complete flush on the vehicle. If you do just a drain and refill it is only going to get about half of the fluid. Then it is like adding water to mud, you just get more mud. A complete transmission flush will take about 45 minutes to complete. To answer your question though, there is a drain plug and to do a drain and refill you will need about 4 quarts of fluid. For a flush it will take 8 quarts.

This typically is not a service that is done at home or by someone who does not have some automotive training.
I would recommend going to your dealer to make sure this is done properly as it could lead to serious mechanical problems if not done correctly. Also, dealerships have an easy means to getting rid of the leftover fluid.
If you need to know how many quarts are required, that should be in your owners manual.
Hope this helps.

I can't believe all the people telling you to do multiple oil changes to "get it all out". You did not hurt anything! Even if it ran for 10 hours that way you did not harm your engine. If you are due for an oil change then change the filter and oil now, if you changed the oil recently don't bother with the filter, just drain the pan and refill with motor oil. Any residual ATF in the system will do nothing negative to your motor. Good Luck!

I own an 02 Elantra and I found the info on the tranny fluid change. You can find it on http://www.hyundaiperformance.com Registration is free and there's a wealth of info on our cars.
Also, you might look in the papers for auto transmission places. They occasionally do have specials, I got my tranny flushed for 39.99 plus tax...including replacing the filter.
