I will be 34 yrs old in Feb. of '08. I have a family (3 kids and wife). I wanted to join the military when I was younger but then decided not to. I can't remember why. I just recently attended my younger brother's graduation from the Marines. I was very proud of him. One part of me wants to join for myself and the other part for the benefits that will be available to my family.

the army keeps raising the age so I don't know what the actual cut off is, 43 maybe, you're definatly be ok. I remember ready a story of a father and son attending basic training together and found it really funny. I applaud you for wanting to serve and your family will get great benifits, and on post housing, but do yourself a favor and crunch some numbers befor you enlist. As a new private you'll only be making about 1400 bucks a month, and that'll be hard trying to raise three kids on. The army is how ever offering upto $40,000 enlistment bonuses now. I've seen too many soldiers living pay check to pay check and struggle to make ends meat and I hate to see this happen. Do what evers in the best intrest of your family.

Don't worry you are not to old, you can do it.. I would like for you to remember you are more then likely going to be the oldest person there in basic, it is going to be hard as hell on your family, and you are going to be put through the ringer, but in the end it is all worth it.. My husband has been in now 8 years and we would never turn back now, it is alot easier then being in the "real world"..When you join you and your family will be taken care of until you get out, none of our answers on here can give you the correct answer to this.. It is all on you.. You also might want to look at the pay scales and see if that fits into your life style, meaning if you have a 500 dollar a month car payment then you are going to be fighting for the first few years.. When you come in the pay is not good... But after a few years it is not to bad,

I don't know what you already know but if you come in as an E1 your pay would be 1301.00, that is your base pay, you will receive 250.00 (about) a month for food for you, and housing depending on where you live, Where we are it is 854.00 for that rank... Before you pay any of your bills that is about 1000 a pay after taxes..

I wanted to give you a lil picture cause I know it was so hard at first... Good luck tho and best of luck to you, if you make it to Fort Hood look us up, we will help you and show you around...

Yes you can the army cut off is 42 and there working on it being 45. I am not sure what the other service are but there probly close if not the same.We have a guy in my platoon who is 38 and just got out of basic and can out run some of the young boys. Now since you have kids you get payed 125 or 200 bucks more per child if i recall its been a while so they will hook you up with that.

Yes, but with your amount of dependents and your age, I think you can only join the army at this point. I know you can't join the navy with that many dependents, and I think you can't join the marine corps at that age. I know close to nothing about the air force, and I'm in the army.

You're pushing the envelope, kiddo. A wife and three kids and you want to play G.I. Joe! Is life really that bad at home. I think your place in that nice warm living room watching American Idol with the kids. Let the young ones do the fighting.

I think the cut off is 36yrs, you may want to consider the National Guard, they do a great service and you can still be there for your kids, good luck.

you are too old for every branch except the Army. you may require a waiver for the number of dependents you have, however.
