He was in a bad accident and the car is a total loss. Our insurance is giving us a really great price for the car. The only problem is it is not enough to buy a new vehicle plus tt&l. I really do not want to put another car in my name. He is almost 18 so I feel he can buy a vehicle himself but he feels different. I need advice should I buy another car for my son?

I wouldn’t, chances are he won’t appreciate it as much as he would if he had earned it/ paid for it.

Now you didn’t mention if he had a job, or if you were GIVING it to him or LOANING him money for one. Case and point, my parents made me work for my first car. Sure they would loan me money when it broke so I could fix it, but I always had to pay them back, but that car was MINE. It was 20 years old, and it wasn’t the coolest truck in the world, but it meant the world to me, because when I was 16 that’s all I could afford, and that was the only reason I worked; to be able to drive.

Now my brother just turned 18 and my parents bought him a car for Christmas, not the best car in the world, it had about 80,000 miles on it, but it was a nice first car. He drove it for 2 months before he totaled it making a left turn on a yield green. My parents bought him a new car 2 weeks later, and he doesn’t maintain it, change the oil, or anything, he just gets in and drives.

I think that is one of the problems with todays youth (I’m 23) they think everything should be handed to them on a silver platter. Your son will thank you in the long run for not buying him a car, and making him earn it!

Depends if it is a car to get higher education or not. When I was his age my father said you can have any car you can afford I earned $1.600 and purchased my first car Kept that car 11 years. Then bought my sister two new cars that saw her thru a university education. I guess fathers are different with girls. One car smashed and he will be very careful if the next one is the car he purchased with his paycheck. I also reccomend that dad and son take a "Drivers Edge" car control driving school. A last chance to bond and both of you will be able to avoid the next smashing experence

well since he's not 18 yet i dont think its a good idea to put a new car under his name and a new car under his name is also bad because his insurance is gonna sky rock. i would get a used reliable car like honda acura or toyota.

For his first automobile get him a mid-measurement or better four door with airbags, after he manages a 12 months or 2 with out incident (no child believes till their FIRST coincidence, that they may be able to lose manipulate of a automobile or get harm, plenty of white crosses alongside the avenue to turn out my factor), then get him some thing with means an excessive amount of horsepower so that they can make everybody desire to scouse borrow it.

I guess it would depend, to me.

Was he at fault in the accident, and was he monkeying around?

If the answer to both of those is yes, I wouldn't buy him the next one.

If he wasn't, I guess I would roll the money over. Let him come up with tx,title ®.
