Why do you guys think people get offended so easily in this section? Why do people resort to name-calling or offending others instead of respectfully stating their disagreements?
To me, it's just like a little kid throwing a hissy fit at Wal-Mart. When someone starts getting so riled up to the point where they feel it necessary to use bad language and personally attack other people...as far as I am concerned, that is when they have "lost" the argument, and it isn't worth it anymore.
I have my own thoughts as to why people overreact, but I wanted to hear some from you guys as well. Can we not discuss beliefs in a civil manner anymore?
Anyways, even if you don't answer, I hope you have a nice night and a great holiday tomorrow. Isn't it great to live in a country like America where we have the freedom to believe what we want, among many other wonderful freedoms?

Disrespect and insensitivity. It is certainly ok to believe what you want to believe. That is a God given right. It crosses the line for me when people blatantly disregard common courtesy and are foul, insensitive and disrespectful. No human being deserves to be disrespected. You can disagree and contradict another without insensitivity.

Your right, it's like kids throwing a fit in Wal-Mart, and I've noticed some people will answer questions (sometimes really good questions) with stupid answers or say they don't know, oh, and I really hate it when someone answers with 2 points, or if they just say the question you asked is stupid and argue back about the question you asked, If they can't give a decent answer I don't know why they even bother in the first place. I think some like to pick fights and others like an easy 2 points.

You have those people who have the most perfect religion since canned baked beans. Add to that people who believe in nothing and they think everyone should believe what they believe. Toss in a few trolls and you have the perfect breeding zone for a cat fight. So basically what people believe in so passionately is something that they have to protect. Often their whole life is based around what they believe is true.
Then you got me. I don't care to fight with people. No matter what they say is not going to shake my belief. And at 53 I've seen pretty much all there is. I've traveled around the world and have met some wonderful people. What made meeting them was getting to know them and not their religion. Each person should revel in their own religion and not use that religion to dictate how other people act.

I believe it is because of the lack of understanding of one another's beliefs. It is human nature to fear the unknown. I know I get upset and offended when someone who is not of my faith starts talking as if they are the authority on it. Even those who say they were once part of the church I am a member of who talk as if they are the authority. I personally try to be respectful, but I must admit that it is quite difficult at times with people as I have described above.

Now I know in your question, you are referring to America, but we in Canada have the same problem. I respect my fellow men and women, and I don't try to push my beliefs on anyone. We are all in titled to our own opinion, and in your words, we should be able to discuss the subject, without name calling or harassment. Man will never be perfect, we can only try our hardest to get along. Why do people do this? I think they are just insecure with their own emotions, and lash out at others who know.
I fully agree with your statement, and maybe some who read this will wake up and smell the roses.

I hope you also have a nice night. And it is great to live in a free country.
I think people experience to much abuse in the real world. The problem on the web is you can't hear the tone of voice or the look in the eye. I imagine many things are misunderstood. And It can be part of our nature to be ready for what we fear.

That is why they coined the phrase, "don't speak about religion or politics" they are both deep seeded beliefs that are the core of who we are, and when someone disrespects that, then they will get a few people riled up. Have a good 4th yourself, and don't despair words never hurt anyone seriously.

Personally i don't agree with probably 80% of the comments here, but anyways i'd like to see this forum as a place for everybody to express their beleif, in a respectful manner without trying to impose them, asking questions and giving answers whenever you feel it could be useful for somebody else.

Because everyone is playing "god'
"God" cannot be wrong and cannot be offended.
what is wrong with the human race? We're LOST, out of control of our lives, and words are mostly to be blame!
If we were in control, we would have no problems , no conflict with ourself and with what others said about us.
You would indeed be perfect were you not under a strong compulsion to believe more in what people say than in what you know is right in your heart !
What is it that debilitate us ? you might ask.
The answe, believe it or nor , is language-the spoken word that leads away from the common sense of the heart. It is one thing to have common sense, and yet another to put it into practice, especially under pressure.
Through words we have been seduced and misguided. We have lost the kind of intuition knowledge similiar to that which teaches a sparrow to huild its nest without benefit of education.
We have lost the wordless way of understanding. the only thing that now rises to help us solve our problems of failings is words, the same that seduced mankind from the beginning at the Garden of Eden.
All we have is words..words,,words ..! We are drowning in a sea of words ! Having lost our own understanding, that is all we have left.
Words continue to betray us, making us believe even that the "Wordless" - Conscience we betrayed to follow the words is wrong for making us aware in a wordless way that we are wrong.
Having chosen the way of words, you leave behind the understanding that reveals what is wrong with the way you are and the way you are going from the wordless word in our conscience. All you have, all you want to have, and all you believe or want to believe , is just useless - words !
Words seduce and words seem to save, but actually we are only saved from the realization of what words have done to us !
When are you going to wake up ? The Wordless "WORD" made flesh is here to deliever you from your lostness, will you let HIM in ?

I try not to let myself get offended. And I think that is the main difference. People find it easier to get offended than to listen to an opinion that is contrary to their beliefs. Additionally there are people who spend there lives looking to cause problems.
