i've tried online translators and stuff but it's jus not working

Hi, we differentiate between the grandmother on the father's side, and the grandmother on the mother's side.

Formally speaking, we refer to our paternal grandmother as 祖母 (pronounced as zǔ mǔ.) For our maternal grandmother, we say 外祖母 (wài zǔ mǔ.)

However, in everyday vernacular, we refer to our paternal grandmother as 奶奶 (nǎi nai,) and to our maternal grandmother as 外婆 (wài pó.)

I live in Taiwan, and the dialect of the majority in this island-nation is 閩南語 (Min Nan dialect.) Here, we call our paternal grandmother 阿媽 (pronounced as "a-ma" in the Min Nan dialect.) Maternal grandmother we call 外媽 (pronounced as "gua-ma" in the Min Nan dialect.)
