I think they had such a problem with lice that they shaved their heads and faces in order to keep the lice problem at bay and probably used false facial hair to keep a "manly" look.

Promoting masculine traits was important to the Pharaohs.
But it was also a social faux pas for the elite of the nation of Egypt to not shave their bodies. It was a sign of high personal hygiene to completely shave their bodies.
