The New Testament offers an alternative to Guilt. Guilt was the mechanism for acquiring personal power over ones personal life, but it has a major downside. Guilt was generated by law, and law goes from accusation, through prosecution, to execution. Jesus demonstrated forgiveness, as another way to satisfy the Law, and to acquire personal power over ones personal life to affect positive change.

In Jesus's world, no one believed that a person could actually forgive and forget. Few people believe it today. Forgiveness is a necessary part of a spiritual diet, and we need to be fed daily. Jesus linked forgiveness to diet, when he gave us the Lords prayer.
