I have a 3.71 GPA in college (in the Honors Program), I've NEVER been in legal trouble, and NEVER been in a car accident that was my fault (I've been in one that was admittedly the other person's fault). I don't drink, or do drugs. And most of the time when I want to go out, it's within 20 min. of my house!
MY brother who is 23 y/o, has been in at least 2 car accidents that were his fault, has gotten at least 3 speeding tickets, he drinks, makes HORRIBLE GRADES, IS STILL IN COLLEGE, LIVES AT HOME and HARDLY does his chores... HIS RESTROOM IS SO DISGUSTING that when I'm not home, he USES MINE! His room is a complete mess as well! Got fired from his job, so he's JOBLESS! He has A.D.D., but he takes medicine for it... AND HE CAN STAY OUT ALL NIGHT! Sometimes he doesn't even come home until the next morning.
My parents say that he can do that because he is older, but age shouldn't matter. I am more responsible than he is... And even if age did matter, I should be able to say out past 10pm

THANK GOD I DON'T STAY HOME FOR COLLEGE! During college I'M FREE! But when I come home, it's ridiculous...

Oh yeah, I hope it makes sense... I'm writing while I'm pissed.

Oh yeah, I'm going to turn 19 in about a month (August 13th)... this is pathetic. My parents wonder why I'm pissed off all the ******* time.

MY BROTHER LIVES AT HOME TOO! THEY PAY FOR HIM TOO! ****, they should be fair about it. Just because they have 'power' over me doesn't mean they should be UNFAIR!

2007-07-03 16:02:28 · update #4

I've already tried sitting them down and talking to them... they will not change. They are stupid.

It's sad that when I'm in-town from college sometimes I don't tell my parents... because all they want me to do is clean the ******* house and stay at home. Next summer I'm not staying at home...

I wouldn't be worried if my parent's weren't so unfair. To be honest, I could care less what my brother does! I only bring it up to compare, and show the injustice.

I think I'll just stay at college until I graduate... I won't come home for summer ever again.

Wow. i know what you're going through..

I'm younger than my brother, get much better grades, more responsible, cleaner, do all my chores... al that.

My parents let him stay out for DAYS... without a call from him as to his whereabouts.

If I'm out past 11, my parents flip!..

They say it's because I'm younger and because I'm a girl..

I guess our parents are just way too over-protective.

They think that just because I'm a girl I'm more likely to get kidnapped, raped, killed, pregnant...

And the list goes on.....

We have the same problem but the bad thing is...there's no solution...

Just because we're girls, no matter how old we are... WE will be treated like we're 10.

But since you're an adult you can go out whenver you want..

I only just turned 17 july 2nd, so I can't really disobey what my parents tell me.. Even though I do anyways.

Sorry but... I don't think it will ever change any time soon.

Good luck with your parents...

I'm still working on mine.

omg.. i am really sorry. that sucks so much. i'm 15 years old and i didnt have to be home tonight till 11:30.
You need to take a stand asap and tell your parents that your going to start doing what you want becuase you deserve it. You have to show them that your not a push over and that you should be able to stay out till at least 2:00. thats normal for a 18 year old.
They sound like they expect a lot from you. And that sucks. Its okay to not be perfect. go ahead and make a mistake once in a while. Just stay out and dont come home till when ever you want.
and thats impressive that your 18 and you dont drink or do anything. i give u mad props.
well good luck. Payce.

I think it has more to do with him being a boy. Sorry to say but society places this carefreeness when it comes to those of male gender. It is unacceptable for females to do x y and z but the male can do it... this is often reasoned away as being some age, or other difference.

You are clearly more responsible, but you are still their baby! They dont want anything happening to you, your young and female and they dont want you to end up kidnapped, raped, or worse killed. This **** happens! I totally understand, though I dont agree.

Try sitting down with them and leveling. Tell them that you want a bit more trust. Place your accomplishments on the table and tell them you have proven that you can be trusted, and that you are able to handle adult responsibility. Tell them u understand their fears, that you get it and you dont want anything bad to happen to you either, but they have to trust that you will be the responsible, accountable and savy young woman they raised.

Hope this helps...

Holy Cow, you`re a adult! I would negotiate rules with your parents!! I was lovong in my own apartment and in another city by 18, I couldn`t imagine that kind of curfew!! Oh, and don`t worry about what your other siblings are doing, just focus on yourself.

Sounds like your folks have given up on your brother and set their hopes on you. In a few short years you will be completely free of them. For the few times you come home, just bear with it.

You are an adult, but if you live in your parents' home and they are paying for you, live with it.
