in theory yes, but most seem to think condemning individuals to hell is part of being a role model

Yes, we should, but that is not the case. Some Christians are hypocrites. Some of the Bible-waving fundamentalists who preach fire and brimstone are more of a turnoff to Christianity and do more to hurt it.
"Walking the walk" speaks more to others than just preaching to them. Love and acceptance are more important than anything else.
Living a pure life is impossible for anyone. Everyone will make mistakes.
I think that non-Christians ought to see that we make mistakes and can acknowledge that we do so. I don't believe we need to try to be perfect.
The problem is that we are darned if we do and darned if we don't. Some people hate us all so much that no matter what we do, we are criticized.
Oh, well.....

I agree. Unfortunately, when the people of the world see one Christian living in a way that is not perfect they hold that person up as an example of what all Christians are.
All Christians are human. We make mistakes but our name itself - Christians means we must be little Christs. He is the ultimate role model is how we should live for others in humility.

How to be a role model for people who are not Christian:
Here is a tidy list to help. I am being sincere here:
Respect the complete separation of church and state
Stop claiming that evolution is a religion or unsupported by evidence
Stop trying to ban, bash, or prevent gay unions or homosexuality by people who do not believe in the same things that you do
Do not try to ban abortion on theistic grounds or pressure the media to avoid contraceptive advertising
Do not threaten other people with hellfire
Do not presume that your god is everyone's mandate
Do not try to hold back stem cell research
Do not support preachers who extort the poor and uneducated.

Indeed, we christians should be role models to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, many times, christians are too busy preaching what we do not practice. So, we live our lives as hypocrites and serve as utter embarrassments to the Lord we are supposed to serve. I will not surprise me if Christ is in heaven right now weeping at the complete failure of christians to actually be "lights of the world", or better yet holy people who are relevant to society, at least western society.

In a perfect world, yes. But you see, we're human, and therefore inherantly flawed. Meaning, I will make mistakes. So long as you try and are truly sorry for your sins, that's all that matters. But God nor Jesus expect you to be perfect. He/they only expect you to live the best life you can.

Yes, yes, yes. And here's a star for you - I'd give you two if I could! Walking with Him, always and all ways is the only way to live as a follower of Christ - a true Christian.
God's blessing on you and yours!

Geisha Christ has difficulty imagining a worse role model. I must now wash the bad taste in my mouth with sake.

Yes, definitely. Jesus says give up all your property to the poor so you may earn a place in heaven.
So why are you still in front of the computer? You should be a role model and sell all your properties and give it to the poor. :P.

Yes, all Christians should be strangers in this land; as we're not of it.
Easier said than done though! I suffer daily battles to be kind and calm and to even shut my mouth!
