***Riley P, I'm a non-denominational Christian. Why? I'm not passing judgement, nor am I being rude. I simply asked for opinions.

Intelligent people with strong convictions would have not have a problem with marring an Atheist or a Christian. Jews and Christians get married all the time. Buddhists marry Christians in the East as well as the West. A persons beliefs are their own, they do not need to be shared.

Absolutely Not! Water and Oil Don't mix, they have nothing in common. It will eventually end in divorce. The Bible says, do not be unequally yolked. What kind of contradictory lifestyle will your children have? As a christian there is already enough of a distraction out there to talk you away from your walk with christ. Having a christian spouse you can lean on each other and build each other up spiritually, when the other is weak. This cannot happen with an atheist. This would be a huge mistake, pray about it !

No, a Christian should not marry an Atheist. The Bible teaches that we should "not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers." The house would be divided and it would be just too much of a struggle for the Christian to keep GOD first.

The Christian thought on this is that you should be "equally yoked". This means that you should strive to find someone who shares similar beliefs.

I'm sure it is possible, but I would not do it. It would be difficult for me to respect someone who felt that my beliefs were simply a bunch of stories.

It seems like it would also lead to a bunch of arguments and marriage is hard enough.

I guess if you are both pretty luke warm in your beliefs it might work out o.k., but I would think you'd want to find someone who can help you grow in your spiritual beliefs.

Just my opnion - not trying to be "preachy".

Hope that helps,
Rick

The show Seinfeld had an episode about this. Elaine got mad at her boyfriend because if he believed in God, he should be concerned for her sole, but he wasn't, so her question was how much did he really care about her/ or does he really walk the christian path that the bible wants him too?

If they have a good level of communication and tolerance there is no reason why they cannot marry and be very happy.

If they marry with the utlerior motive of bringing the partner around to their way of thinking the marriage has little chance of making it.

Yes, a person should marry the person they are in love with, regardless of beliefs. Not marrying someone because of their beliefs is the same thing as not marrying someone because of their ethnicity.

Sure... and it can work out just fine. My 23 year marriage to a devout Catholic was ideal. Our difference in belief was not the reason for our break up and we never had a single argument over anything that was even remotely spiritual.
