The excuse used to be "oh, they're terrorists because they're disenfranchised, not because of Islam." Well, that idea has now gone out the window! What conclusion can we come to other than Islam is THE greatest threat to world peace?

People who have an agenda, and feel that any means will justify their goal, education will (obviously) not be enough to stop them from committing such atrocities.
In fact, education probably only makes them deadlier.
These people did this for specifically religious reasons. There have been many mass atrocities committed in the name of many religions, and those who lead the way are usually intelligent, well-educated individuals.

Excellent question.
I agree with the gist of your point, however what do we mean when we use the word education?
Can someone really be a Muslim an educated? It is true that a Muslim can have skills. They can be trained to shingle the roof or even walk through a medical school and pass exams, but is this what we mean by education?
To be educated is to have a universal base of knoweldge with a foundation of critical thinking skills. You cannot believe in the absurdity of Islam and be "educated".
What is the cause of terrorism? Its the idealogy of Islam. That idealogy must be directly attacked, ridculed, maybe even banned...but thats the source..

critical thinking is the only way to stop terrorism.
education is more to learning how to be a good employees so that we can go out and find a good job.
that mean logic thinking and common sense is involved.
The problem is that they are draw to believe in things that logic thinking and common sense cannot explain.
by throwing the cirtical thinking away, they are do anything they think is right and still think they are right.
our brain are prone for brainwashing, it is part of human nature, as we cannot explain all the things happening to us, we build all sort of things to explain the events.
when one person tell you a thing, you may not believe, when one thousand people say the same thing, you intend to believe it is true if you didn't use cirtical thinking.

they are educated in medicine not religion and superstition.
it's the religious appeal of the twisted beliefs of A Queda that
they were vulnerable to . I don't fight against defense in fighting for peace but a lasting peace can only be held through understanding .

As long as we have religions that present themselves as "The Truth", we will have terrorism. Education may play a small part in it, but at the heart of it is intolerance and hatred... on all sides.

well, think about it this way. if everyone was more educated, there would be a lot less nuts in the world. education does not neccesarily equal atheism, it just increases the chance of it.

How about education about their religion? Islam strictly forbids suicide and murder. Apparently these doctors didn't know that, if indeed the doctors were the attempted murderers.
