To see things in black and white is a vary narrow and judgmental way of living. (Actually it is a dying way.)
In general the "black and white" people are intolerant. They think; my way or no way, my God or no God, my church or no church.
You are right they limit their spirituality by not allowing the beauty of diversity to exist in their way of thinking.
I cannot think of a more horrible way to adhere and think except in black and white.... But it also is needed to create tonal variations. A picture needs tonal variations, color combinations, and structure. The aesthetics of a beautiful picture, a way of thinking, and a beautiful soul need all three....
Peace
Robert

You are right there is a lot of poetry in the bible. But I believe it completely. I take it literally from Genesis to Revelation. It is actually a letter from God to man written by man but giving to man through the Holy Spirit. The Bible is wonderful and I believe in God's every word!

IMHO it's a matter of control, just like it's always been.
"I'm richer/better looking/holier then you."
And never underestimate "pack mentality".
The richness of true spirituality (whatever the religious context) can be a very individual thing, which goes against both the above ideas.

A passionate being knows that is no black and white, but only greys. Churches talk in black and whites so they can control people, and the clergyman can feel he has the power of God. He loves this when he personally doubts that there is any God.

A lot of people think that everything is black or white, yes or no, Evil or holly. They forget the grays in between.

black and white, right and wrong, good vs. evil......
Two distinctions are easier to talk about than 3, 4, 5, .... x amount.

I've never really seen the bible as really "beautiful". There are some nice parts, but on the whole, it's not that great. Nothing in there that you can't find elsewhere, and better said.
My two cents.

I dunno.... but I've found that church is the most racial place on earth!! Think about it.... 99% of the time (unless it's primarily military) there is only one race attending services.
Where I am.... we have black churches... white churches.... and Mexican churches....
Where do the Chinese people go on Sunday?

To the first respondent; if you DON'T take the Bible literally, you're going to miss out on the best thing God has planned for your soul; ie HEAVEN!!!!

Orthodoxy means not thinking - not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.
