It is genetically impossible for this to happen. Your new pup will be just that a new pup.

Your new puppy will be it's own, individual little 'person', and you shouldn't expect it to be just like your older dog. It's important to realize that before you get your new pup, that way you won't be disappointed and spoil a potentially new and exciting relationship. Once you get your new pup, accept him/her for who they are and enjoy the similarities and differences!

However, there is some truth to the thought that a younger dog will take on, or mimic, the lead of the older one. A young puppy will look to an older dog for guidance about how to react and behave in unknown situtations. This is how puppies learn, especially from their mom, and why they need to stay as part of a canine family for at least 8 weeks.

If your older dog is good natured, well behaved, calm and well-socialized he'll be a great role model for your new pup. Of course they'll have to adjust to each other, and you'll need to make sure the puppy isn't allowed to drive the older dog crazy with all it's high energy. Make sure to remember to make a fuss of your older dog, not just the puppy, and allow him to have plenty of space and peace and quiet away from the rambunctious 'newbie'.

They may squabble a little at first, but puppies generally respond well and are submissive to older dogs, and your dog will let your new pup go so far, and no further, before issuing a warning growl. As long as it's just a growl, and maybe a few teeth showing, don't be alarmed, that's normal canine behavior. It's best to let them sort out the pecking order themselves, as long as no-one is getting hurt.

Sometimes adding a new puppy can give an older dog a new lease of life, don't be too surprised if he acts a bit more 'puppyish' too, at least for a while!

The pup will learn and imitate the older dog. I have a 9 month old lab and she is WONDERFUL!

No. I purchased a lab puppy because it looked like my five year old lab thinking that it would turn out just like her. It did not.

It depends on what kind of traits you are speaking of. If you are talking about behavior, then it is likely...but just like with humans, everyone and every dog has their own personality and specific traits about them.

Will HE OR SHE take on the older Lab's traits, please. No animal deserves to be referred to as an "it".

Probably so, if the puppy thinks the older lab is nice to him/her. If the older Lab hates the puppy the puppy will probably get mad and mean.

the new puppy will learn some things from your current dog, but it will have a personality all its own; don't count on it to be a clone of your current dog cuz you will be disappointed.

Every dog is different. You can't get another dog and expect it to be like your current one. No two dogs are alike.
