This is the problem with red light cameras....the photo doesn't show WHAT COLOR THE LIGHT WAS WHEN YOU ENTERED THE INTERSECTION, it only shows your car in the intersection when the light is red. If you enter the intersection on a YELLOW light and the light turns red you have NOT run a red light. If you enter the intersection when the light is RED, you have run a red light.

In Virginia when the light turns red, it starts a 3-4 second timer so that if you entered when yellow, you have time to exit the intersection. Once that grace period is up, they gotcha! The big controversy here is the amount of time the timer is set for after the light turns red. There have been accusations that it gets turned down by the jurisdiction so that almost everyone in the intersection, regardless of when they entered the intersection, get flashed by the camera, thereby increasing revenues in the jurisdiction. Also, most of the sytems are run by a local contractor, and their payment comes out of the tickets sent, which provides them incentive to get as many tickets out as possible. Tough to beat in court unless you can prove you were at work and your car was stolen, or something. I think each jurisdiction does it slightly differently.

Two pictures are taken. One has to show you entering the intersection on red, the other actually in the intersection. If you are in on the green and end up waiting for through traffic running the light, or you have entered on yellow, you have not set off the sensor, so it will only get you in the picture if another vehicle triggers it, and that is the vehicle that gets the ticket. Now, some places have speed sensors, so you can get a speeding ticket.

It depends.
In Calif, if you enter the intersection on a yellow, and you have enough space to clear the intersection (don't block the 'box'), then you should not get a ticket. If you do, you have a good case to fight the ticket and win.
But if you enter the intersection on a red, you're guilty as charged.
Commit the crime, do the time. Unless your name is Scooter.
Drive safe and have a great 4th.

In NY the camera is activated when the light turns red so anything in the intersection box gets snapped

No no no they can't prove it was you, there for they can't ticket you go to court and say my friend drove your car. Just like if you a pass for toll you can't get a speeding ticket for getting to the next one to fast. the cameras are for accidents. I go through red all the time never got one I drive across the country everyday.

beats me dude, because you didn't say where your cameras are located (city, county, state, country, planet, whatever).
Remember that Yahoo is a GLOBAL forum and that the laws in England, for instance, are prob. a lot different then those in Cecilville, Arkansas ( USA).
