Scientists at academic institutions get tenure, specifically to shield them from outside influences on their ideas.

So I challenge you: name ONE scientist, anywhere in the world, who has gotten "rich" from global warming. "Rich" being defined as the same wealth as the CEO of ExxonMobil -- a company that has spent millions denying global warming.

I don't think scientists are getting rich from global warming. Not only that, but the scientific method is designed to prevent people from spreading theories that cannot be independently verified. Since many scientists in many different places agree that global warming is happening, and since even I can see how things have changed the past few years, I am convinced that global warming is not a myth.

Whether it is a myth or not, no body seems to know for sure. Each one of us should do what we can for the environment. Just in case, I think it's a good idea no matter what.

There's a book out there called "The Green Book: An everyday guide to help save the planet one simple step at a time".

We as individuals can do what we can.

Getting rich are they? And how might they be doing this exactly? Scientists aren't salaried from research money you know, so that couldn't possibly be it.

And what about the scientists studying global warming ninety years ago, long before grant money was even available? They had to fund all their research themselves, how were they getting rich off of it?

Scientists are NOT getting rich from studying global warming. That's a blaitant lie.

My father was a scientist for like 25 years, got tenure, and he never even made six figures. Scientists can have slightly better job security if they're putting out good papers and move along the tenure track, but that's about it.

Don't make claims like that when you don't know what you're talking about please.

no. because before when it wasnt as big of as an issue like it is today. like in the 70's and80's tons of scientists weren't getting rich from it because to the government it wasnt really observed as an issue. they WERENT rich but STILL studied it. they are not really getting rich they are just doing their jobs and trying to find solutions and ways to help save the earth. they are helping us and most could careless about the money. so think more into the question you want to ask next time so you dont make yourself look like an arrogant idiot. thanks.

Since stockbrokers get rich from studying the stockmarket, isn't Wall Street a myth too? The north pole is melting faster than ever before - does New York City need to be under water befor you'll admit there's a problem?

Rich in the sense that they would be a waiter a Chili's if they didn't have a research grant to study a non-existent phenomenon - YES.

But let's not kid ourselves, it is politicians, bureaucrats, and unethical businessmen that strand to profit most.

Dana, how many Ph.Ds did you say you had in that other thread? You know, the one where you sneered at the illiteracy of GW deniers?
