As far as I know, it's two different names for the same thing.
The DSM-IV (main book of mental disorders) has a section on Panic Attacks but doesn't mention anything called "anxiety attacks."

Absolutely nothing. If you want
1. If you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks and anxiety. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can take a course for free online at: livinglifetothefull.com It has been funded by NHS Scotland and has had great results thus far.
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough.

I have panic attacks and generalized anxiety and I've always thought they were the same (panic attack/ anxiety attack) but that's a good question, worth looking up in wikepedia maybe.

I think a panic attack is when you think you're in a place you can't get out of, like being lost in the store or the woods.
Anxiety attacks are when you have so much on your mind that you can't sort it out, or specific things are bothering you, and it's hard for you to deal with it all at once.

Panic is worse and has more features like an upset stomach, rigid arms and legs, feeling of doom, nausea, chills. Anxiety is feeling fidety, nervous, head full of thoughts, but less physical symptoms. Constant anxiety can lead to panic attacks. See someone before you get to that point.
