My son is 8 years old and he LOVES Drake Bell from the Nick show Drake & Josh. Drake is also a singer and teenage idol...he's coming to our town a couple of weeks before my sons 9th birthday. I'm trying to decide if he's too young for Me to take him to the concert? Only serious answers please. My husband and mom are confused like I am. We don't want him in a bad environment, but we know how much he loves him and we're hoping it's mainly a "kid" environment and wouldn't be bad with drunken adults, etc....
Thank you for your honest and helpful answers.

Thank you all for the answers so far.
I just wanted to respond a little to the "be more concerned about education" We are concerned about his education...he is a very smart little boy. The concernt will be on July 28th which is during the summer....no school. BTW...I'm not just being a "parent" saying he's smart. My son only missed 2 questions on the Reading TASK Test and ONLY missed 1 on the Math TASK Test. So if anything think of this as a reward. =) Thanks again. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to take him.

I went to my first concert at 9, without mum or dad, and I will remember it forever. He will have a great time, and if you are with him, he will be totally safe. I'm actually a bit jealous, I'm 41 and love Drake as well.

Take him, and have a great time, if you feel that uncomfortable when you get there, just leave....I'm sure that won't happen though. The look on your boys face will tell you you've done the right thing.

My first concert was a Weird Al concert when I was 5 years old. There was more adults/teenagers than kids, but there wasn't any drinking or anything. A Drake Bell concert? Haha! Nooo way. No drunken adults, not at all. They probably don't even let alcohol in the vicinity of the concert. Going on 9 years old probably a good age. If its a Drake Bell concert, definitely. There will probably be 6-13 year olds there. There will be adults with their kids, but if there are adults with beer there partying... they really need to get a life. My Chemical Romance doesn't even have drunk adults (and there are groups of like 9-year-olds there, too, in fact... half the crowd probably is). If I were you, I wouldn't be concerned in the least. Drake Bell is a very, very nice musician and especially as a first concert. Not too crazy and very kid-friendly.

Definitely still take him. While you're right that mostly other kids will be there, remember that there are people who attend such "kid-friendly" events for the wrong reasons; need I say more...

However it's good that you've recognized his growing distaste for adults. I think you can easily find a happy medium between, "See you son, wake us up when you get back," and one of those kid leashes. Personally, I'd let him invite one of his friends to go with. If possible, sit a row or two behind so as to keep an eye on the two of them, but still allow them a feeling of independence.

Well because it's a Drake and Josh concert I'd think it would be a kid enviroment. It is Nickolodean after all. I'm sure it will be alright. I remember 8 year olds going to backstreet boys concerts.

I don't think drunken adults like drake bell lol

If you're going with him I don't see the big deal. I think drake bell mostly has a younger audience

No I really am against this. You need to raise your child at this age in a way that makes him more concerned with his schools and studies not concerts. That's why I don't think that taking him to a concert where he can see all sort of drunk people is a good idea. I'm talking to you from our traditional perspective in my country but I really think it works for people with other traditions as well.

I think if you take him, it shouldn't be a problem...... if it's not what you expected it to be, you can always leave.
