I was at my highschool farm yesterday and some man just left this kitten there. I think it is at the most 5 weeks old and I've had tons of litters of kittens and know taht they aren't supposed to be away from their mother until around 8 weeks. She has trouble eating regular hard kitten food, so should I just feed her the wet food, or should I get some sort of milk replacer?

At that age you can actually soak the dry food with some kitten milk replacer and make an oatmeal like consistency of it. This should be warmed up a bit and should be very easy for her to lap up. Feed several times a day. Most likely she has never been dewormed, so giving her a dose of pyrantel pamoate (different brands, just follow the instructions on the bottle) will take care of hooks and rounds. Repeat in 2 weeks.

no, 5 weeks is fine. I had twin cats a long time ago and I got them at 5 weeks old and they were just fine. You can feed her the canned kitten food, but DO NOT give the child cow's milk! Cats are lactose intolerant. Wal-Mart sells a baby animal formula called Tiny Tiger and you can give her a little bit of that with her food. Don't start her on a bottle because she's past that point and you'll end up having problems getting the bottle away from her. I learned that the hard way with a Siamese kitten - this cat was 6 months old and still wanted the bottle. It was ridiculous.

Yes, it needs a replacement for the mothers milk. The kitten is too young for your typical kitten food sold at most grocery stores. You should be able to find a replacement for the Mama kitty's milk at some specialty pet stores. Look for KMR or Just Born kitten formula and /or a nursing kit. There is some other info you need to take care of a young kitten so you might want to call your local shelter for tips.

Go to the pet store and buy a small nursing bottle and some "mothers milk" this will help them tons, you need to feed them every 2-3 hrs with a bottle until they are full. If it is cold where you are you can also fill a sock with rice, put it in the microwave for a min and place that under a nice thick towel and put them around it. This will help thier body temps to stay nice and warm. It also reminds them of mommy. If you can get them to eat some wet food and water then I dont think the bottle will be needed but they do sound a bit young for wet food. Good luck.

1% milk isn't what the kitten needs. You need to get some KMR (kitten replacement milk) sold at pet stores, and in some grocery stores. If she was wandering around, she is probably at least 5 weeks old. The milk you are providing her is not sufficient for her nourishment needs, but at least you are trying. I am posting a link on caring for an orphan kitten. At her age, she probably needs a gruel made up of KMR and kitten chow. The link has a homemade kitten milk recipe if you can't get to a store.

Hi you should try and get some cat milk from the pet store it comes in containers similar to juice boxes this will help the kitten with nutrients and minerals it needs to help it grow faster. You should as well eith give it some canned foor or some dry kitten food mixed with some warm water to make it softer for it to eat. as well do your best to keep the kitten well protected give it a safe place to call it's own if possible and try to handle it as ofen as possible to keep it used to humin contace. If there are other cats around that were mothers or that have kitters of kittens at the present they might adopt it along with their babies they had themselves. It's hard to say really keep a good eye on it and best of luck to you and your kitten.

We have a stray kitten too, and we feed him wet food and a little bit of milk. You dont want to make them sick. The kitten needs the nutrition of the milk though since it has been seperated from its mother so early.

Hope this helps!
