find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
buy whole wheat breads (pitas, wraps, english muffins etc), Kashi cereal are the best ones you can find in regular food stores, old fashioned oatmeal, egg whites, yogurts, 60cal sugar and fat free puddings, skim milk, veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, dark green salads, broccoli, asparagus, zuccini, baby carrots etc), fruit (apples, mangoes, pears, grapes, melons, berries, peaches, apricots etc), lean meats, fish, nuts, dried fruit, avocadoes, natural peanut butter, sugar free preserves - there are so many things to list - just go to the health food store with your mom and see what they have there.

you have 1200 calories to break up into your day. So use them wisely. You'll get the hang of it in a week or so of logging what you eat. There's some cool software out there to help you keep track of your eating and fat loss. One thing i can tell you is that you can have some of the things you like. But the rule is that you have 1200 calories a day to work with. If you drink a few regular sodas or swing by for a quick big mac meal, pizza ect. you've blown your intake for the day. If you're serious about losing the fat you'll see that a life-style change is really in order. That's your choice you can win or lose. No-one else cares if you do this or not. You have find a balance of what you like and what you have to really limit. Lastly, you're going to go through some plateaus where nothing you do seems to be helping. Just remember. You have the power. Keep up the aerobics 5-6 days a week. do as much as you can every workout until you're up to 30-40 minutes per day. Another cool thing. The more exercise you do the more calories you can add. 300 calories burned means 300 calories gained for that day.Don't go under or over 1200 for any day. If you cheat. You're only fooling yourself. Don't be in hurry, how long did it take you to put on the weight? So give yourself about 7-8 months. Good luck!!

40 lbs is lots of weight to lose so the best way for you to do, is to have the discipline in eating fatty foods and food which have high carbohydrates. As to what you need to eat, if you are aiming for a great result, you can try having a fruit and vegetable diet. And after few weeks, you will see visible results. You need to do cardio exercises regularly so to maintain a good figure.

Veggie trays, they are easy and the work is done for you
Jello
100 calorie packs
I make sandwhiches with light bread 45- 60 cal a slice
Soups
Just read the labels and try to eat fresh non processed stuff.

As far as excercise: combine cardio with strength training switch off every other day. Mainly just get moving!

Flavored rice cakes (taste good & are crunchy!), grapes, bananas (sweet & natural), and chewing gum! (gum curbs the need to chew)

Flavored non-calorie waterr taste good and can replace sugary sodas.

I've always liked my stairsteper for staying in shape (but walking quickly up stairs in your area will do the same thing, too!)

Riding a bike, swimming, jumping on a trmpoline (the mini kind) jogging with friends; Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease is fun and a nice workout, believe it or not!

Organic Foods are the best if you want to loose weight. By the way even if you eat right you're not going to loose weight without exercising. Try exercising an hour every single day. Oh and you could drink slim tea.

Can I suggest going to a Weight Watcher meeting? I've lost 30 lbs there within the past six (6) months.
