He is 21 months old and he constantly points to my freckles and says, "Poop! Ew gross!". I tell him a million times a day they are freckles not poop. I know he understands me and he's normally a fast learner. Is he just doing this to irritate me? He's very serious when he says it.

I should add I'm not angry or interested in punishing him for it, he's just a baby. And it was funny at first. But after the first 6 billion times now it just annoys me. He's a doll and he acts very concerned when he says it like he thinks I actually pooped all over my arms. It's just starnge to me. It's been going on for about 9 months.

Maybe he isn't talking about the freckles and really sees something you don't

Your son keeps doing this because he enjoys seeing you react. He obviously knows that freckles are not poop but by bending down to talk to him, you are rewarding him and teaching him that making fun of people is an easy way to get their attention. Next time he says it, don't say anything. Ignore him. Instead, when he says clever things or nice things, act animated and excited and be sure to give him lots of attention. He will catch on soon enough; he sounds like a sharp boy. Good luck!

He probably just does it to get a rise out of you. For the next 3 days, completely ignore him when he says that your freckles are poop. Just redirect him and see if he still mentions it after 3 days of your non-reaction.

As any normal 21 month old child will demonstrate - POOP IS FUNNY. And it is funny for them to comapre anything to poop. Yes - I think it is to get a reaction out of you , good or bad. Calmly correct him that they are freckles, not poop, and ask him not to use "poopy mouth". It can be frustrating though!

Yes, he'd doing this ti irritate you, and I can help you to 'stop that' ... EVERY TIME he says that, pick him up and stand him with his nose in a corner ... and don't let him 'move' until he has 'apologized to you' or for at least five minutes. He needs to be 'stopped' because this kind of talk is OFFENSIVE and PAINFUL to many people ...
But my daughter was 'staring' at a woman who had no feet, and was in a wheel chair. I was ready to 'scold her' when she walked up to the lady and said 'You are so LUCKY, you get to ride in that chair all of the time. I get so tired of walking sometimes.' Then she gave the woman a hug and accepted an 'invitation' to sit on that lady's lap to 'rest' for a few minutes ... so don't be 'too hard' on your son when you put him into the corner ... he may be 'wonderful' when it counts, too, someday.

He has heard it from somewhere/someone else, and everytime he does it you react. He is not able yet to distinguish between a good reaction and a bad one. To stop this, stop going over the top when he says it. He'll get bored and move onto something else.

ignore it. he wants the reaction because he knows that you wont blow up and ground him or put him in time-out forever or something terrible. its just fun. you have to admit, when you were little, and you couldnt control anybody or tell anyone what to do, it was fun being able to get a reaction from your older sibling or parent. he's guilty of it too. just ignore it and he'll grow out of it by the time hes about 2!
goodluck!

Since he always gets a reaction to what he says, he is probably now doing it to either irritate you or at least get a response. Try ignoring him when he says it and he'll probably stop pretty quickly.

LMAO. I'm sorry, that is just too funny. My son did the same thing with a particular birth mark. All you can do is just keep telling him. He'll stop eventually.
