Regarding Atheists, for the 500th time, NOT believing in something is NOT a belief. We do not 'believe' god does not exist, we KNOW. It goes against all reason and common sense and as has been said a million times there is as much evidence to support god, allah, zeus or any other invisible flying creatures, which is to say none, zip, zero.

And yes, it is just like trying to convince a drunk to sober up, the only difference is that eventually the drunk WILL sober up, with or without any help.

--THE BIBLICAL recommendation is to not debate:
(1 Timothy 6:3-5) “. . .If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, 4 he is puffed up [with pride], not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions, 5 violent disputes about trifles on the part of men corrupted in mind . . .”

(2 Timothy 2:23-25) “. . .Further, turn down foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing they produce fights. 24 But a slave of the Lord does not need to fight, but needs to be gentle toward all, qualified to teach, keeping himself restrained under evil, 25 instructing with mildness those not favorably disposed; as perhaps God may give them repentance leading to an accurate knowledge of truth,”

(Titus 3:9-10) “9 But shun foolish questionings and genealogies and strife and fights over the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile. 10. . .”

Your analogy actually reads in favour of debating with believers, as most drunken people can be convinced to stop drinking when they've over indulged . Have you been drinking ?

Perhaps. Perhaps debating with some atheists is just as futile, though.

The fact is, I don't think there will EVER be a time that all of us will be able to convince the other to see our perspective.

In all modesty, I must ask what you mean by 'believers?' Are you suggesting that any understanding of our existance is somehow objectionable? I only ask because I suspect that perhaps you hold a mistaken impression that everyone who visits this section holds similar beliefs...I can assure you, my friend, that such a thought would not be accurate. Blessings...

More so, at least with a drunken person, the time it takes to convince them is working with you.

All people have faiths and beliefs in various things and I think you would find it hard to logic with them about something they have faith in. Faith and believe are not developed with logic, even if you consider things you believe in what ever it may be, it usually isn't based on logic. Faith is faith, walk by faith not by sight and Chrisianity is a choice, so you can take it or leave it, why argue about it.

The key is open-mindedness. Everyone believes something, but only the open minded will ever learn.
