From what I've heard, make the dog sit when you hear the door. Leave the room for a moment, come back, and make sure she is still sitting. Let your friend in, if the dog makes and motion to go towards the friend, pull the dog back to seating position and give a sharp 'No!'. It might work easier with a leash, if you tie it so theres enough room for her to move around a small area of the room, but not get close enough to jump on your friends. when the dog gets the idea, remove the leash and try again. You will have to do this every time you see her make a move to jump on someone and to assure she still understands the point of it. Dogs do it to get closer to a persons face, but they need to understand they cannot in such cases.

First of all do not squirt the dog or knee the dog as all these techniques do is to teach your dog to fear you. You want your dog to not jump on people because that displeases you and it wants to please you. You have to train it and you have to start at the beginning. Teaching the basic obedience commands and having the dog obey these commands because it wants to. I recommend attending a good obedience class. They will teach you about dog behavior, and why aversion (squirt bottle) are the wrong way to train. They will also teach you how to teach your dog. Once you have learned all of that (easy), then you can correct bad behavior successfully. Wouldn't it be nice to teach the dog the "leave it" command and be able to throw a steak on the floor, give the command, leave the room for 10 minutes, come back and the dog is still staring at the untouched steak? Very easy to do. After training you will have a so much better pet and a safer one.

use a small spray bottle and spray the dog in the face every time it jumps up. It should only take a couple of times and then you can just show the dog the spray bottle and it will know better.
good luck.

if its a big dog, as soon as s/he jumps, give him/her a swift kick in the chest with your knee. have some of your friends do this as well, so s/he learns that he cant jump on you or any one else. if its a little dog, just give him/her i little nudge. the power of the kick or nudge depends on the size of the dog.

You could get a little spray bottle of water and when someone comes and she/he jumps on them spray her/him with the bottle of water near the face. Dont spray a lot just a little squirt to mkae him/her no not to jump any more. after a few weeks of sprays in the face. he/she might stop. good Luck.

You can try simply training demands with your dog. mine use to do the same, (sometimes even urinate on people) because they are excited to see people. But with patience and persistance, I have been successful in training my dog.Good Luck!!
