Flea collars absolutely do not work. Anything you buy over the counter at WalMart, etc (Hartz brand is actually dangerous for dogs and cats) is old, old chemistry. Frontline Plus and Advantage/Advantix are your best bets. You may have to go to your vet to buy these, but I have heard that you can get them at pet stores. Also, flea dips are horrible, don't always get rid of all the fleas, and tend to make animals very sick.
If you have an infestation in your house, you can use Advantage on your dog once weekly for one month and then monthly thereafter. Since fleas have a two week life cycle, one stage of this cycle creating an impenetrable coating resistant to chemicals, you may need to treat your house once and then again two weeks later. Call an exterminator for more advise on your house.
Good luck!

No, do not use flea collars. They are hardly effective and a lot of dogs die from actually eating them. The only thing that works 100% is a product like frontline plus. Its a topical liquid that you apply once a month. This stuff kills eggs, fleas and any fleas that jump on your dog throughout those 30 days. I would recommend getting this product as it works the best in all my animal experience.

Honestly, flea collars don't work. The best is to use the preventative meds. Try Frontline, I've been using it for my dog for over 3 years now. Not one case of fleas. Works great!

I personally dont like flea collars because of the different kinds and the chemicals they use in them. My cat started balding arround the neck when I used a flea collar on her so I would never use it again. Simply just keep your house well clean, vacuuming kills flea eggs really well, flea collars are no the answer. There is a hairspray for pets, it disinfects their fur of eggs and they dont need a bath afterwords, same with spray for your carpet, prevents flea egg layage for up to 3months+. Good luck.

That's a negative on the flea collars. Go with Frontline Plus or Advantix if you want a reliable flea/tick prevention product.

Nay- I never saw they worked. My dog was infested after a weekend away- with a flea collar, perfectly new and everything. Bathe your dogs a few time a month with flea/tick shampoo and contact your local vet for information on flea and tick guards like powders or sprays. All products can be potentially harmful- be warned.

flea collars r ok and they work but they smell bad and dont protect ur dog from anything else but fleas
the cost depends on the brand but i used like a $2 one and it worked fine the most expensive one i saw was like $8
u should look 4 the right lengh 4 ur dog but even then u usually have 2 cut off like 5 in. b/c its so long
flea collars generally last 4-6 months and they come in a variety of brands
flea collars work but things like k9 advantix etc. is usually the best and plus flea collars smell weird like raid and mothballs

Flea collars have pesticides on them. They lay on the dogs fur and do NOTHING to kill the fleas. But the pesticides do get on you when you pet your dog and on kids or what ever else it rubs on. You are better off using front line plus... a on line source is petshed.com. I use it because I get a big discount rather than at the vets or other on line companies.

No flea collars, no oTC flea products..they are ineffective and they can be very dangerous to your dog..they can cause skin irritation & burns, neurological issues, seizures and death.
Get a safe flea product from your vet.

NO WAY!!! These are very toxic to the animals and they really only help protect the area in close proximity. Fleas like to be under the belly and around the tail too...and that doesn't help much around the neck.
