I use Frontline Plus, and my dog is always free from fleas and other critters. I did not know this until recently, but make sure you don't give the dog a bath one week before AND one week after you apply the flea prevention. If you do, you'll mess up the way their skin absorbs the medicine, or something like that.

If you have a puppy that's less than 3 months old, that's too soon to apply flea treatment, and could be fatal. When I first got my pup, she was 8 weeks old, and someone had left her and her litter in a box on the side of the road. Needless to say, she was covered in fleas, had worms, and everything else. I counted down the days until she was 3 months old, but until then, I just used a flea comb like 8 times a day. You get a bowl of HOT water, add something toxic like dish soap to it, and every time you stroke the dog with the comb, immediately dip it into the water to kill the fleas.

Suds that dog up with some good flea shampoo and let it sit on the dog for a little while. Pick all the dead fleas off. Get Advantange flea medicine from your vet and shave an area up by the neck and back by the tail and apply the medicine. Next, treat your house. Depending on how bad you have them you could use a regular house bomb. You may have to get a professional if the house bomb doesn't work, though. Last, TREAT YOUR YARD. This is very important. All you need is a good dusting of Lyme twice a year all over your yard. Make sure to do it at least two days before a rain comes. You want to give the Lyme time to set in. This will also make your grass look amazing. Good luck and watch you dog for signs of being allergic to fleas.

Is this question for "on your animal"....I think frontline plus is the best thing there is. Also in addition, especially if you have a dog sensitive to flea bites... use a hydrosol spray with essential oils like lavender, tea tree, and clove to repel the fleas. Frontline doesn't repel, and there really isn't anything out there on the market to repel fleas. You can use the essential oils alone to repel, but it isn't a surefire way to rid you of a flea problem. Frontline helps to break the life cycle of a flea and will make it sterile when it comes in contact.

just about any brand works but the thing is that if you have a flea problem, you need to disinfest your animals AND your house. if you don't do both, you will continue to have fleas. also, if you live in an area with a lot of fleas, then everytime your pets go outside there is a chance they will bring fleas back in. anyhow, use a house anti-flea treatment spray and/or bomb, and also give your pets flea baths (not too often as that will dry out their skin) and also a monthly flea and tick treatment and/or a flea collar.

Just heard this on TV last evening, an old "grandma's trick for fleas". They said to give the dog a bath using "dawn" dish detergent, then rinse very well. Claim is the dawn leaves some sort of residue that fleas can't stand.
If it works, great, if it don't just send a letter to fox news and complain, it's not my idea. That's "myfoxcleveland.com"

Our dog had a bad reaction to Frontline Plus so we couldn't repeat the dose. Nothing else worked until we got the Hartz 3 in one home spray and the 2 in one pet spray. Using those by the directions has cleared up house and dog for over a year at a time.
