The problem with that is the extreme religionists came to America to flee persecution. So they came here to make religion more important. So technically this was a victory for them.

My church does not teach against it, and in fact, seems to encourage it. However, there are some denominations locally that refuse to celebrate Independence Day for the reasons you're already mentioned. They consider themselves not to be a part of this world, and refuse to hold public office, or celebrate nationalistic holidays. In some cases, these groups also will abstain from voting in elections, because such elections are only relevant to man-made "kingdoms", and not the Heavenly kingdom.

Christians of all people have the right to celebrate independance day. This nation was founded upon Judeo - Christian principles. Our Founding Fathers were ovewhelmingly Christian. And unlike one said, it was not for freedom from religion but freedom of religion. That is why the overwhelming majority of our first settlers came here in the first place. it's so sad that so many today do not know the true history of this great nation.
John Adams proposed that when Americas future citizens celebrated The Declaration of Independence, they should have religious services to thank God for what He had brought about. President Adams said Independence Day should" be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival, commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty, from one end of the continent to the other, from this time forward and forevermore."
May God bring to light the truth that has been so long buried by our historical revisionists.May America return to her Christian heritage again.
God bless America!!!

Read Romans 13:1-7
It says that everyone should submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority that exists except that which God has established. It goes on to say that as good Christians we should obey the laws, pay your taxes, respect and honor where it is due, and generally be good citizens.

im sorry but you are wrong.
u are lumping everyone into what ur "perception" of christians are. not all of them are like that.
and it is NATURE for human beings to act that way... the Jewish did it. that's why the Pharisees (religious teachers of the law) killed Jesus in the first place, because He kept going against their "rules". if you had studied it at all, even just for educational purposes, you would've known that. just because a lot of people today are just as ignorant as they were back then, doesn't mean the idea of Christianity is wrong.
you are acting no better than the Christians that you're judging =T.

Sorry, fella, but Christianity is protected by the First Amendment just every other religion. We're here to stay.
Why should God frown upon his children for paying their respects to their country?

I've always been confused about this myself. Christians do not believe in democracy...they want a king. They've already created a fantasy version of the king that they want to rule over them and they wait patently for that day. They have sworn their allegiance to their "Lord." As such, it is a contradition for a Christian to say they support democracy...when then do what they are actually saying is that they will support demoncracy UNTIL their Lord arrives.

I answered this EXACT same question earlier. I'll give you EXACTLY the same answer:
"The same reason many American atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Wiccans, pagans, and agnostics celebrate Independence Day...
Because we like fireworks!"
