He may get around to it yet. My male chihuahua was almost 4 before he discovered he could lift his leg. One of the females, on the other hand, has lifted HER leg since she was about 10 months old. Go figure!

Leg lifting is a learned trait and your dog may discover it on its own. When exposed to other dogs it will learn fast. Neutering had nothing to do with it.

I have a 3 year old male dog who is fixed and he squats & hikes his leg a bit. He only goes in our backyard and we don't have trees so maybe that's why he didn't learn to hike his leg.

By that age he is set in his ways. Yes , he will always be a squatter. But does it really matter? If he is a good dog, I wouldn't care.
