Use the Photo Album option to bring in the photos real fast -- you'll find it at Insert | Picture | Photo Album...

Then insert your music to span across slides:

Finally, get to the transition dialog box (or task pane) and choose a transition time you want -- to apply the same time to all slides, click Apply to All. Thereafter, you can fine tune this individually for any slides that need a longer or shorter time.

Also remember to use PowerPoint's compression feature since you are inserting pictures -- and those can be typically high res -- and will make PowerPoint very sluggish. To do that, select any picture, and choose Format | AutoShape (or Picture) -- then in the resultant dialog box, find a Compress button. Opt to apply web compression to all pictures in the presentation. This will make your presentation more snappy while playing.

Hope this helps.

Can I suggest that a better way to do this might be with Photo Story 3 available free from Microsoft at the link below? It has brilliant transitions to choose from between slides, you can put your choice of music on and you can burn it on to an ordinary CD as a VCD which will play on a standard DVD player.

Not sure if you're on a Mac or a PC. If you're on a Mac use File > Save As > PowerPoint Movie. That will create a movie file of your presentation. Use iMovie or iDVD to to burn the movie to a DVD that will play on any DVD player.

MAKE 1 FILE FIRST and than start with a new page in that file only....and than when you are down with all your slide pages than you just do the reherse timings[ i don't know how 2 spell it..lol] i think it's in the tool box or something and than u can move the slides as the way you want them [ TIME WISE ]!!!

Go to the SLIDESHOW drop down list across the top... click on SLIDE TRANSITION.... a new little screen should appear.... go down to the ADVANCE SLIDE part.... click on AUTOMATICALLY AFTER button and then choose a time for each slide.... you can set up each slide differently or put them all on the same time.... for same time just click APPLY TO ALL SLIDES..... for individual slide you must do it for each
