This is very unofficial but if you look at the number of people in and out of there since 2003 say an average of 125000 a year that would be 500000. 1% of that is 5000.
SWAG say's less than 1%. Compare that to US highway deaths at 45000 or so each year. I don't know which number to use to calculate that. Total population or number of licensed drivers. I am going to make a second guess that highway deaths are less but not likely by much.
Good Luck

Ok Dude, these other people obviously aren't in the Army currently. I am here to tell you that it is more about what unit you are in, how good your equipment is, and how disciplined you and your team are. I deal with casualties all the time, and a lot of the time it's errors in planning and executing that get people killed. Just do what you are supposed to, watch out for yourself and the guy to your right and left, and you'll 99.9% be assured of being ok. Of course, you always have to allow for Murphy's Law. The chances are no worse than driving down the street. Welcome to the greatest fighting force in the world.

For the guy who said that any mos is just as likely to die as an infantryman has obviously not been to iraq or is a pogue! .... Ive been there and infantry takes the hits,, we are the front line, as well as scouts, tankers, fisters, combat medics,, and all combat mos´s.. so dont believe a mechanic or finance worker are just as likely to die as an infantryman,, they are safe on the FOB while we are kicking down doors in the middle of the night...

sorry but I can't give you an aswer. Don't base your career decision on an arbitrary number that doesn't mean sh**. Its low enough you don't have to worry about it, 1% or less. If you go to Iraq in any other mos your just as likely to get killed as the infantry men. Bullets don't discriminate
