I make the best ribs and never ever par boil ribs. Season them to your liking. Soak 2 cups wood chips in water for about an hour. Place them over the grayed charcoals. Immediately put the ribs on the rack, cover and let smoke for 2 hrs. The meat will absorb the smoke immediately. Check them about once every 20 minutes. My ribs are always juicy and nicely smoked. Who wants watered down ribs. Besides the boil takes away some of the flavor. Practice, practice and eventually you will make the perfect ribs. After they are done, wrap them in loosely closed aluminum foil. You can also baste them in a good bbq sauce before removing them from the fire.

If you don't want to finish cooking them on the grill, you can remove them after they have absorbed the smoke, place in aluminum foil and finish in the oven. During the last 15 minutes, open the foil and let them dry a little bit so they aren't full of moisture.

The best way is with a smoker (about $40) but a grill will work just as good. Do not cook them on the stove or oven first. Marinate for an hour or two in BBQ sauce, or if you prefer use a rub. Set the grill on low you want the temp at 200 approximately, if you have some hickory chips soak them (can get at any store like walmart) this can help give you that smoked flavor you only need a few. grease the grill rack, start the grill drop the moist wood chips in put on the ribs close the cover. Grill for 3-4 hours basting after 2

The first question you have to answer is how much time do you want to spend cooking the ribs. If you want to cook them on the grill only it will take 5 or 6 hour cooking over low heat basting them every 15 minutes. If you precook them in the oven or on the stove top. they can be cooked in 2 to 3 hours. then finished off on the grill in 5 to 10 minutes.

Listen to your wife! :) Thats the best way... Cook them on the stove until they are tender then throw them on the grill with sauce. Its hard to grill ribs to the point of being tender w/o cooking them first on the stove.

It depends on what kind of ribs they are ... if there is 'a lot of meat' and they're 'short' you can 'marinate them' and cook them on the grill. If they're the 'long ribs' with just a little bit of meat on them, it's best to BOIL THEM first so that they're 'cooked' and then grill them' once the meat is 'tender' ... because the meat 'closest to the bone' is TOUGHER than the meat 1/2 in from the bone ... so it actually needs MORE COOKING than the 'thicker, fatter meat' ribs do.

Most die hard bbqers will say to never start inside and then move out, but if it tastes good, who cares. you can start your ribs in a large pot or better yet a large deep baking pan. Make a mixture deep enough to cover ribs consisting of 2 parts beer and 1 part water. Add some dry seasonings, any kind you like, chili powder, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper or any of those along with some brown or yellow mustard. Simmer for about an hour and then grill with your favorite sauce for about another hour. You will love them.

Yeah, you boil them for 20 minutes to destroy connective tissue and cook the ribs. Then you cook them on the grill, basting with sauce.

I think your wife may be right. If you totally cook them on the grill , they take awhile and the sauce you will probably coat them with will burn and dry up. If you cook them for awhile in the oven you don't have to grill them that long and the sauce won't burn.

Do not boil these ribs. It makes them tough in my experience. I put some salt, pepper, garlic and stuff on them. Then I wrap them in foil and put them in oven for like 3 hours on 275-300 degrees. Take out of foil and apply sauce, put on grill and when you flip it will be so tender it will be falling apart.
Enjoy

Let her boil them first and then throw them on the grill to get that grill taste and if you like add BBQ sauce.
