Consider the following:

1) Even though there is an intentional "shortage" of the toy at the moment, within 3 months, you will be able to get the toy at any WalMart (in other words, if you wait, the toy will become mass marketed)

2) The toy will become "obsolete" in 3 months and replaced by a better toy.

3)The toy will go down in price within 6 months and readily become available on ebay.

My girls were young when the Cabbage Patch Kids were first popular. I told both of them that they would NOT be getting one for Christmas because I refused to participate in the madness. They eventually got one after the holidays when the mobs were gone.

I do not think it is ever right to go to great lengths to get the most popular toy --for just the reasons you gave. OK-- I might do it if my child were terminally ill and wanted ONLY that particular toy --- but that would be the only exception.

Parents are sending a message when they do all that pushing and shoving and waiting in line for hours. It tells their children that any behavior is OK as long as it gets you what you want.

I would never risk my life for my potential child. What would happen if you ended up dying? You'd be doing so much damage to your child because they wouldn't have a mother or father...and especially over something as silly as a toy?! In my opinion, a child shouldn't be playing with a rare and expensive toy in the first place, they could just easily brake it.

And... if I was poor and had to support my family, buying a toy might mean not having dinner for a week! I think it's selfish and unnecessary to risk your life for a child's toy.

I would never risk my life to get my child a toy. I would risk my life to protect my child, in fact I would give my life for that cause. I would do anything for my child that would keep them healthy and protected, but a toy is a toy. They will make more toys. My parents didn't have the means to give me the best toys. They did buy me and my brother gifts for Christmas and birthdays and not themselves. My dad even bought me a used bike and him and my grandfather restored and painted it. I would do that for my child. But having a living father I think is a gift that keeps on giving.

NO! I would not risk my life to get my kids any toy . . . I don't care how special it is. I am trying to raise them to not be materialistic - a tough feat in this day and age. Besides, there are other things to consider . . .
1) they break everything eventually
2) their likes change daily
3) if I bought something expensive i would not want them to play with it . . . so much for it being a toy.

If the child really wants it, and it's not EXTREMELY expensive ther emight be a 2% channce of me actually buying...lmao. You're probally talking about the iPhone, lol. In a short period of time there will be much better phones, so save your money for later! :) A child doesn't need a new toy that he/she will soon be tired of, he needs a good parent that has money to support them financially as they get older! Put the money in a college fund or bank account and save it up instead! Good luck with this question, but I'm deinatly leaning towards NO!!! =]

Nothing is worth risking your life unless your child was in danger. Toys come and they go, wait until you can afford the next new and better thing. Shelter and Food is the most important thing you should be thinking of.

If I was poor.... ?

No, I would probably be more concerned with putting food on the table; I'd hit up the grandparents for the toy, lol. Besides, if a toy is 'all the rage', it only means it'll only be 'rage' in a month anyhow. That, and they're usually annoying, noise-making, oddly demonic things.

Obviously, no. The child needs me more than any toy, and for the reasons you stated, I would not risk my health, sanity, financial wellbeing, or anything else in order to get the toy, much less my life.

I'm curious what provoked the question?

*LOL!* What poor, underprivileged child is thumbs-downing all the "no" answers?!? Whoever you are, you poor dear, we'll take up a collection for you! :-D

No. I wouldn't risk my life for a child's toy period whether poor or extremely rich!!! Are you talking about something such as PlayStation 3 or iPhone, Wii, or one of these gadgets that the companies intentionally make very little of to keep you interested down the line to keep their bottom lines up through out the year? I think they are very smart in doing so business wise but consumers are very stupid and play to it!!!

No. Risking my life and leaving my child without a parent is worse. I teach my child that you can't have everything in life. To be happy and grateful for what you have and if you really want something to save for it. I tell him there will always be something newer and greater and by saving you may want the newer item and will be able to afford it then.
