they think Jesus Christ came to spread His gospel and make it known that He was the Messiah? yet, the idea of a Messiah comes from Judaism. the Native American religion didn't have a need or concept of a Messiah. if the answer is because 2 of the lost tribes of Israel came to the Americas, then why wasn't there evidence of this when settlers came? like maybe a TEMPLE or Torah scrolls i dunno, people practicing Judaic law here?

sorry if my legitimate question came across as "mean"

John 10:16, in my opinion, means that Jesus must tend to people in the area He was already in that weren't following Him. And He commanded that His believers & followers spread the Gospel, which to me eliminates the need for Himself to go and preach anywhere else. He handed that job over to his followers.

coolrogue...Jesus was neither pale skinned nor fair haired. He was a Jew.

Gobby Sarah....does your Catholicism also teach that men can become Gods, when they accomplish certain tasks during this lifetime?

coolrogue...thank you for your perspective. i do know that each tribe has its own spirituality, my question was generalizing this and was perhaps worded poorly. i am assuming you are Native American? does your tribe's set of beliefs have any resemblance to the Mosaic/Judeo religions?

From a question you asked earlier about knowing if the Book of Mormon is true, it sounded like you had read it. The reason that there wasn't evidence is in there. The righteous people were all destroyed. There were no more people that believed in a Messiah or followed the commandments. All of them either changed their beliefs or were slaughtered.

As to why we think that He came, Aloha gave a great answer

How about looking at this from a Native American perspective... More than one "tribe" have legends that talk about a pale skinned, fair haired man born of a virgin. And he became a great "peace chief" as opposed to a "war chief"...

And there are temples in Central and South America, just not like what you are thinking of in the "Holy Land". History and archeology proves that people lived in Central and South America before they lived farther north.

And there's no such thing as a Native American Religion, each Nation or "Tribe" had it's own belief system. And Spirituality was and still is a very personal thing to us. We acknowledge a greater being (The Creator), but we also believe everything around us has a spirit also, everything has a little of The Creator's spirit in it. Whether it be living or not. Our Spirituality is part of our daily lives, in everything we do.

So why not? Jesus was all powerful and could have even cheated death if he so desired. So who is to say that he didn't come to this continent? Where is your proof that he didn't ? And why are all you self confessed Christians coming down on a religion that has beliefs different than your own? The Catholics and Protestants believe differently but you don't see them bashing each other. What make the Mormons so different? Who knows maybe they have the truth and it's all the rest of us that are wrong....only time will tell.....

How about asking a question that isn't being mean about another religion?

Don't you think that other societies were looking of the Messiah? Since they came from the same place as the prophets of the old testament, don't you think they would know the stories about Christ's birth and death and look forward to that also? Why wouldn't Christ visit people OUTSIDE of where He came from? Didn't the WHOLE WORLD need to hear the message?

I don't think it was *just* the america's he visited. I'll bet He went to other places also.

What does the scripture John 10:16 mean to you? And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be cone fold, and one shepherd.

Gee.. maybe it means that people who have never heard Him may need to hear him? Could that be possible? Why was salvation only for those living where He lived? Didn't He say that He had come to save the WHOLE WORLD?

The Mormons, though they committed atrocities against the American Indians as well, were some of the few that took time to listen to our stories, while they were trying to save my ancestors with theirs. They heard stories that the Onieda tell of a strange profit that come to this land. He did not look the Onieda, but looked more like these new people. The lessons and stories this profit shared with them supported what they already believed and how they lived their lives. When the Missionairies started telling the stories of Jesus, they recognized who they were talking about, but it was the Mormons who took to Onieda stories to heart and make the connection.

I still think comparing the BoM to the Bible is neither 'fair' nor applicable. It's a product of a fertile, imaginative, but fanatical mind: Joseph Smith Junior. Even if the man was devoutly religious, passing off this tome as of divine origin is fraudulent and irresponsible.

Making comparisons of the BoM to the bible or historical facts is simply a waste of time, effort and oxygen.

OK, I am Catholic.

I believe in the Virgin Birth
I believe Jesus raised people from the dead
I believe he healed a blind man and a leper instantly without 'medicine'
I believe he was genuinely dead, and came back to life
I believe he turned Water into Wine.

If these beliefs were not so widely accepted, I would be called crazy and locked up in a mental institute.

Why bash Mormons?
To an outsider, their beliefs are no more ludicrous than mine?

If they ever came to my house, I would love to chat with them.

If Jesus went to visit the laminites in In north America, during the three days before he got resurrected, then they could say that their book of Mormon therefore was a second witness to back up the bible.

Cuz they want their people to believe what the founders of the religion wanted to be real even if it wasn't. The concept that no Messiah would come here doesn't fit what they want to hear, so they try to force it to fit.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?

Wherefore murmer ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.

Misled... The teaching is directly opposed to the New Testament on many counts. It is without historic backing or any support outside their own claims.
